Hi everyone, as the the title says shall I get a slipper clutch or not! I ride a 1098s and I love it, but I want to spend some money I was wondering if anyone had one on there bike and what it was like?? Would anyone buy second hand? And has anyone heard of the make MPL it's German! What they like?? thanks
MPL are from what I know a copy of the Bucci clutches. The slipper clutch in my 996 transformed the bike, I bought that used but from a trusted friend, challenge with buying used is until it turns up you don't really know the state of the basket and plates. If you are buying new go straight to Sigma Performance, a large number of the the racing paddocks have these in most classes and the outfit belongs to Neil Spalding (Eurosport MotoGP techmeister) Theres no such thing a a cheap slipper clutch Our range of slipper clutches
I put a sigma slipper in my 999. It was the best thing I ever did even for road use. I can't imagine riding without a slipper clutch now. Neil Spalding really knows his stuff and is very helpful if you have any issues (like not reading his install instructions properly)! Deaks
Try doing some research before making ill informed and potentially damaging sweeping statements. Neil Spalding has always and currently owns the Sigma Performance brand, what he sold to Snells was the part of his business that owned the IP and parts connected with the engine building and performance enhancement work that they used to undertake, ie 853 conversion technology and all the stuff that went with Full Monty / Grunter spec engines, so that those wanting continued support or engine work to Sigma Performance specs could still get that. Follow this link and have a read: Services @ Sigma Performance So if anyone is buying a Sigma clutch from Sigma Performance they ARE buying it from Mr Spalding. And its a great product
Cant fault my sigma clutch. When I sell my old one and the track kit/ spare tank I'll be sticking me in my gixer
What Dibble said on both counts. Had a Sigma slipper in my last 848 for 17k miles and now in my 848 evo Corse SE, the kit has been fautless.
Yep Spalders is a great bloke, Ive fitted many of his clutches to many models of bikes, have one in my blade and did have in my 848, same results in all Ive done! GREAT! Harder you push one the better it gets! Must have IMO.
Oh very droll, so rather than admit you were wrong you get all insolent, or then again, maybe you just can't spell, as you obviously aren't very sharp are you ?
Go read your apology and then you might work out out why I'm getting arsey ..... and if you still don't get it, then you still don't get it, not a lot I can do about that.
I have an STM one on my 1098, as long as they're set up right they're a great addition, especially if you're planning to do trackdays. I'm after a wetty now for the 848 being built in the shed of dread...
Here's service...emailed Sigma about an hour ago to see if my wet 848 clutch will or can be made to fit my gixer, save me the effort of sell and buy, within 20 mins an email saying nope, too different. Its friday evening....guess I'll be buying ANOTHER Sigma clutch then
I use a Bucci item and riding hard it certainly helps with corner entry. If you've not had the back hopping around on down changes then as Cranker says suspension professionally set up might be a better upgrade. I'd try and get a ride on a similar bike with one fitted and see if you notice the difference and like it. It could be like fitting a headlight upgrade to a track bike, pointless if you don't need it.
Couldnt disagree more. Never had one til my last bike, didnt realise what I was missing, just as useful on road as track and you dont have to worry about downshifts eg in the wet approaching a roundabout. Never had the back hopping as such or locking much even on track but its just so smooth
