:frown: Hi can anybody help i have a 2005 800SS with only 8000 miles on it. It has 4000 miles on it when i got it nearly 2 years ago. I noticed when i gave it some stick from a standing start the clutch seemed to slip and roar so i had to curb this urge.I made the mistake of changing the oil for a high quality car oil (semi synthetic)containing friction modifiers, not good for wet clutches apparently. Shortly after, this caused another problem as the clutch seemed to then slip under load for example tryinging to accelerate up a hill at high speed in top gear. This seemed worse the hotter the engine was. I then changed the oil to the Ducati recomended Shell oil but this has not improved things at all. I am now resigned to replacing the clutch.I have read that this type of fault is quite common to this type of bike at this kind of mileage. Can fellow members confirm this and is a Barnett clutch set recommended by any one. Or is there a simpler cheaper fix i can try. I am convinced that this cant be fixed by clutch lever adjustment.
You could try pulling the clutch out and give it a damn good cleaning with some thinners and hang it up to dry over night. Then soak it in the (correct) oil you're using now for another 24 hours and then rebuild the bugger. Might save you a few unnecessary quid for a few k yet. 8k isn't a lot for a wet clutch but it could be shagged. Can't answer the question about the Barnett wet clutch??? but I can recommend the dry one.
