Smoking After Shut Down

  1. Just started the bike in the garage and after shutting down noticed the right pipe smoking.

No smoke when running or when you give it a few revs it only happens just a few seconds after the bike is shut down and only from the right hand pipe.

    Anything to be worried about?

  2. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but i think your Akra's are done for... Best thing you can do is get them off and in the post to me ASAP, I believe they don't smoke on 899's :grinning:

  3. Chillax.. all fine/nothing to worry about - more likely to happen as winter approaches :upyeah:

you could look for any oil deposits/be aware if strong oil aroma that might be make things worse, had you just had a particularly large hoon?

  4. No bike been sat on its side stand in the garage for about 6 weeks.

Strange only the right hand pipe smoked

  5. Could just be a drip of oil has laded on/in the pipe

  6. I don't think its anything to worry about. Just residual exhaust gasses escaping, more noticeable now the ambient air temperature is lowering.
I recall my 848 doing the same, smoking more from one pipe. The smoke doesn't look a sinister colour and probably won't have an odour

  7. The bike is crying because it is so f'ing cold! ;)

  8. I wonder if this is a V thing more than an issue thing with the cylinders being exposed in such a way that they cool down/heat up at different rates because one is upfront and one is behind. Was it doing this in the hotter weather?

  9. No only noticed it after it's been stood a while and on shutting down the engine.

It's not condensation or anything silly.

    No odour either.

Only thing I can think is a drip of oil got past a ring but saying that I'm also not convinced of my own theory as it's strange it only doesn't it on shutting down.

  10. The engine has probably stopped with one exhaust valve open. So what you're seeing could be the last fuel/air charge making it's way out.

  11. My 848 used to do exactly the same. Just a normal characteristic by the looks of things.

  12. I take it you just went out started it for a couple of minutes then switched off.
If so it will be products of combustion combined with dampness inside the exhaust. If you have only run it for 5-10 mins it's not got anywhere near hot enough to burn these things off.

  13. My 848 does the same to

Always has never had any detrimental effect - so just ignored it - try to keep looking forward

  14. Emm! So your worried that when you fire your bike up which involves fossil fuel burning that it smokes? Do you drive a tesla ?
