Like Redding and think he's the best chance of a brit lifting the crown... he's young enough to have a future and fast and stylish enough that on the right package could be a contender.. could marc VDS be it?
Jean-Philippe Ruggia wa the first (apparently) to get elbow down..........I think this 'getting down' is more of a fad than any advantage.............the next thing will be ear sliders. Most world champions did it by getting the power down (in the right places).
SR's more crazy lean angles always seem to be in practice and not during live races, put on for the camera I think and not for any racing advantage as such...
Was it ever evident that Mike Hailwood or Ago needed to hang off the bike? No. Neither was it for Schwantz, Roberts, Sheene or Rooney etc..... Maybe the bikes are quicker these days, so perhaps I shouldn't comment; but I still don't see it....... ......much the same as some sidecar monkeys had to have a slider on their arse (Waltispurg and Hewitt didn't).
Rossi started it. When asked in an interview why he did it his answer was......"I have no idea, but I know why the others do it"
Tyre tech is light years ahead of Sheene,Roberts et al.Lean angles these days almost defy physics.Looks good though dunnit!
I thought it was to do with creating extra drag for braking when approaching a corner and a little extra down force for the rear. Im sure that is what I heard, could be a myth though.
from what i remember they all the top guys "leant" , likewise Lawson, Spencer , Mamola etc,, the only one who noticeably didnt was Hasslem ( not that he was really amomg the world elite ) and iirc Gibernaut ( frog on Gauloise Yam.)
