2004 Ducati monster 1000 sie. Decided to change the spark plugs. Spoke to a couple of company's and they advised me to put ngk dcpr8e in. The ones that were on the bike are dcpr9e. So I put the ones they had advised me to in and the bike needed choke to start. I then changed back to the original ones. Would the dcpr9e spark plugs damage the engine?
The ie motors don't have a choke, it is just a fast idle lever. As far as the plugs go it is always advisable to go with the manufacturers recommendation, having said that one heat range shouldn't be too bad, but do it at your own risk. Did you gap the new plugs correctly?
The DCPR9E plugs are one grade colder and are more likely to foul than the 8s. Other than that there should be no difference.
