  4. Yep, well done Tai.

Must admit I enjoy a bit of speedway, but at the track not on the telly.
Poole Pirates is the easiest for me to get to, Wight Warriors would be closer but for that stretch of water.
I don't get there as often as I'd like.
I used to go to Swindon with my Father when I was a nipper.

The atmosphere at the track can't be captured on the telly.
It's all a bit Crap in a great fun way, in exactly the same way as going to watch the Greyhounds is far more fun than the Horses.
Old biddies with all their branded gear on shouting and screaming, Really Crap food and drinks, but really good family fun.

  5. Went with the lad to Wolverhampton Speedway during Covid, was a fun night out. The crowd aren’t motorcyclists and as you say it seems to be similar to a night at the dogs. Lots of family groups marking the results in their race programmes, the racing is a great spectacle IME worthy of going at least once in your life.

One solitary motorcycle on the car park everyone else in cars, if anyone is interested enough to go out on the terraces is better than inside near the bar.

  6. Made me wonder whatever happened to air horns at the bikes when I was watching it Saturday (Wsb moto gp etc..) I know a load of miserable twats moaned they were “too loud” but you rarely hear them anymore and certainly aren’t for sale like they used to be?

Always thought they added to the atmosphere as you heard the air horns following the riders round each part of the track like you do at the speedway.

  7. The thing that isn't the same now as it was when I was a nipper is the smell.

Back then they were actually still racing on Cinders, I assume from power stations etc, which had a distinctive smell as they were churned up.
The bikes still run on Methanol of course, but probably far more efficiently so that component of the smell is less intense.
The last component of the smell is the Castrol R(Other brands are Available) as I believe even now the bikes run a total loss lubrication system.

  8. Not on TV here in NZ this year (Yet)

  9. Wolves speedway may be no more next year. They have been told their agreement to use Monmore Stadium will not be renewed next season.

  10. There’ll be no may about it, I doubt they could find nor build a replacement track.

  11. Not sure how viable it is, but Hednesford raceway may be their only option.

  12. Poland tonight, always a noisy one!

  19. As much as I enjoy watching it, I have to wonder how long it is going to remain viable as a sport in the UK. A number of the old established tracks have gone & reading Tai Woffinden's autobiography it seems to be not the best run sport. Be a shame to see it go, but I can't think of a track near me anymore.
