After riding a few track days I've decided to give up riding on the road and keep to the track... So this beautiful machine is now up for sale. I keep all the paperwork in my office at work, so will add a few details later. 2007 on an "07" plate with 11'500 miles. I bought it in Feb and have only added around 150 miles and can confirm it's a lovely bike to ride. This is the highest mileage bike I've owned and was a little concerned about how it would feel, but it rides like something with half the mileage (or less!) ...the brake lever is nice and firm, the engine sounds sweet and the gear change is terrific. When I got it there was a little bit of paint blistering on the front of the tank (from ethanol seeming through) , I've had it repaired and sealed to prevent this from happening again. I've also had new Pirelli Phantom tyres fitted, (that have only been used to ride around my yard at work every couple of weeks to keep things ticking over). I have the original pipes, foot pegs and brake levers, 5 service stamps in the book (I think 4 Ducati) and if I get the asking price, I will have the bike serviced including belts by Ducati John. The bodywork is perfect, with some nice patina on the mechanicals... Bit of wear on the clutch cover, bit of tarnish on one of the silencers and a bit of paint flaking on the engine casing. The bike is in North Yorkshire, and I have a van so I can help with delivering it if required. I can also do a walk round video of the bike and send it to any serious buyers * 4 Owners Service history: 581 26/2/2008 RIders Bridgewater 5437 13/6/2010 David Robson Motorcycles (Ducati Specialist) 8466 26/4/2012 David Robson Motorcycles 10595 01/6/2015 David Robson Motorcycles 10824 05/1/2016 Jem Speed Shop 11500 Jan 2019 Ducati John.... inc belts (to be completed when sale agreed) £10'000 (sorry for all the pictures, but it's such a beautiful machine it deserves them!) Good luck with the sale, I have to say that is a stunning looking machine. Btw I’m not sure why you thought 11,500 miles might be an issue, that is actually very low mileage!.
Before I started riding Ducatis I bought a 2005 R1 with 3200 miles, swapped that for a 2007 1098s with 3400 miles!
Oh I see so you’re just regarding it as higher mileage in comparison to your other bikes, got it, people do get a bit nervous about bike mileage’s, here’s some perspective, I bought my blade with 18k miles, sold it at 67k miles, nothing ever went wrong with it, I had it dynoed at 53k miles and it was still making factory quoted bhp, my Alfa GTV dynoed at 103k miles still making factory quoted bhp, my XJR1300 dynoed at 15k miles making 6 more bhp than factory quoted!, engines wear at a very slow rate, provided they get their prescribed oil changes, I worked at Toyota years ago, we had a Carina engine on the drive simulator for 250k miles, when stripped and checked every single component was still within manufacturing tolerances!, I read an article in Practical Sportsbikes called “million mile blackbirds” where a blackbird specialist that looked after despatch riders bikes talked about two on his books that had done over one million miles!, both had had camchains replaced but no other engine work, I can’t say that my brand new Scrambler rode any better than other bikes I’ve owned with tens of thousands of miles on them, engine internals aren’t made of cheese , items such as piston rings expand to cope with mechanical wear and maintain compression, admittedly cycle parts & paint finishes do deteriorate with age but this is usually cosmetic and depends greatly on how they are looked after and at the end of the day are easily rectified , anyway safe to say your bike is very low mileage and will probably not need any engine work for at least another 60k miles, or 60 years if it continues to have as much use as it’s had so far , I think you’ve priced it very fairly by the way, should fly out!.
I have a Toyota/Lexus 3.3 V6 which has just turned 150k and still drives like new - I changed the timing belt (belt only, no water pump or pulleys ala VAG) at 113k but it really could have gone a good bit longer. I'm bargaining on at least 250k miles before the bodywork lets me down Would love to make you an offer on the Sport Classic but funds, space and wife probably would have different ideas
One of the things I'm most critical is the gear change, and I've ridden a few bikes with around 10- 15k miles and they didn't have the precise "click" when changing up/down and felt a bit loose. Price wise, it's fantastic compared to the Paul Smart "limited edition" (ha... there are more Paul Smarts for sale than the red ones!) and it looks sooooo much better in red!
