Spray Catcher mod

  1. I've just seen a picture of the new MV Rivale in this weeks comic. Nice bike, but what really caught my eye was the way they've incorporated the number plate into the spray catcher like the Diavel. It got me to thinking if this sort of arrangement would suit the Mutley. Anyone tried it?

  2. All you're doing is adding unsprung weight. Not a good idea!

  3. Interesting , where are the indicators ? , i know what you are saying about the un sprung weight but it wouldnt be much especially if you got one of the flexible plates ... they dont weigh much .......not even the difference between having a dump before you got out on the bike

  4. The number plate doesn't weigh much but you'd need to add a number plate light as well and probably a reflector to be legal.

  5. Of course it would need lighting so more headaches

  6. Not a good idea if you ask me. I had a friend that moved his tail tidy on to his swinging arm like that, but it never lasted long. is shook with very lil ripple in the road un til it stress fractured, and if I remember rightly just before it snapped clean off and was dangling dangerously under the side of his swinging arm, he had fitted an led light to it because he was sick of changing the bulb.

  7. Okay JC, I'll have all that but Ducati have made it work on the Diavel so they must have overcome the vibration/weight problems. However I've not had a close look at the Diavel arrangement yet so I don't know how they've achieved it. It may well be that the catcher is made out of cast iron or something!

  8. It is also common thing on Harleys so it works. I guess you could fit diavel unit.

  9. In two words; remove it. It's hideous & pointless. I'm sure Rizoma or the like will have a solution for the plate/indicators.

  10. Rizoma may have but I was speaking to a Mutley owner outside the dealership the other day and he'd fitted a Tourtech item. He'd removed the spray catcher and fitted a Tourtech plate holder which has a lipped extension to cut down the spray.

  11. I'd always assumed these things were a legal requirement on certain bikes for some reason - couldn't fathom that anyone would leave them on otherwise. Hideous.
