Ss Mini Fairings From Japan

  1. [IMG] Found these whilst trying to find some half/mini fairings for the SS. I've taken the fairings off for the first time to do the belts and really like the look of the naked beast..I don't like the Ducati Half Fairings at all though and those ones from Germany require headlight removal, but I really like these ones from Japan..bit pricey but I think they look perfect and they just screw on to the nose fairing as normal. Any positive comments would be considered. Need to paint them obviously.
    I'm getting some anyway.

  2. They certainly look much better than the standard fitment, although at that price it would have been nice if they came painted to match the bike, and with stickers, as in the pic! It looks as if they cover up all the necessary ugliness like coils, which is good. I thought the cheap German unit could fit with the standard headlight, although I know others here have had to put in a fair bit of work to get it fitted:

You might want to look for a prettier mudguard, too - it becomes rather more visible with the abbreviated fairing.

  3. The German ones fit ok actually and no problem with the headlight.
Quite a weight saving over the standard setup.

  4. I prefer the Japanese one, I don't think that one is covering enough area, the Ducati HF in my mind is too bulky looking...i was thinking of trimming my full fairing top halves down but the finished edge would look poor.

  5. nice find @Troutman , don't forget to factor in costs of HMRC (Import VAT etc) and Parcelfarce (Clearance/handling)

  6. It does leave a couple of brackets and the coil on show but it was £60 from a forum member so I thought it was worth a go.
I'm happy with it and the guy I bought it off gave me the brackets and dzus fastners so it was a straightforward job to fit.

  7. Wassy..do you have a Power Commander fitted to your bike..mine is a nightmare to ride below 3.5k..it's got Termi pipes and airbox mod..goes lovely above 4k..thinking of getting a PC to smooth out the bottom end of the rev range.

  8. I have pc3 with dj map on my '00 900ie, high level/k+n/open airbox. Runs crap below 3k and on neutral throttle. I think the ecu is under developed on these bikes.

  9. No PC fitted and it runs fine at low revs however my airbox hasn't been cut at all. Might be worth trying to borrow an uncut lid.
Whereabouts are you .... I'm in Richmond North Yorks if you want to try my bike or swap lids.

  10. My bike also has lower gearing which may help the low down running.
It tops out about 125 but pretty quick getting there. It out drags a 955 Triumph from a standing start.

  11. I'm in Scotland..yeah I need an uncut lid, it has a K&N too so I think it's most likely running lean at low rpm. Been quoted £550 for a PC+dyno to get it running better. Wondering about getting the Ducati map changed.

  12. Theres guys just starting to retune the 620/750/900ie ecu's. I think the 1000 has a later type ecu.

  13. Mines an '02 which I believe has the later ECU as the 1000SS. Seems smooth enough under 3k. Has high level Arrows and I have just put in a KandN but left the lid intact, just taken snorkels off. Yet to try with airbox changes but it was fine before.

  14. Mine's not..it's very lumpy at 30mph..I juggle between 2nd and 3rd gear. It's got a 14t front sprocket btw. If you're turning right at a mini roundabout you have to pull the clutch in and roll, it's impossible to ride round in say 2nd gear..very snatchy.

  15. My days with fibre glass are over. I have had 2 pieces now, spent a fortune on a respray, only to find hairline cracks on both of them. I'll only buy carbon or OEM plastic in future.

  16. Agree, the Japanese one also does not leave a mount point exposed. What's it made of?

  17. £235 plus postage and Her Majesty's Thieving Bastards will have a piece of action there too...£350 perhaps. When the IE becomes a restorer's bike (at some point in the next 20 years!) I might get a pair of those and make carbon versions

  18. Well I was thinking of doing the same, buying a set of used fairings as cheap as poss..and then mould some mini fairings using the three mounting screws so that you can leave the headlight fairing alone. Basically something like the Jap ones but maybe a more level bottom edge and slightly longer, like a modern version of an Imola Fairing for the SSie's.
Would love to get involved if anyone is interested, I think the right design would transform the SSie's.
