Has anyone out there repaired the lugs into which the wellnuts fit for the four belly fixings that join the two fairing halves together? if so, how did you go about it. I have an idea as to how I will go about it but thought I would prevail upon the experience of forum members before proceeding. Thanks
Many thanks for taking the time to respond Dan. Unfortunately no. The very front lug had snapped in half but all fixed now with epoxy adhesive and an ally backing plate drilled 9mm for the wellnut. You will note that I drilled 9mm not 10mm as with the help of some soapy lube and threading the screw into the wellnut from the wrong end you can wriggle/pull the wellnut through the slightly smaller hole.
OK, glad you fixed it. I have repaired my fairing but without seeing your damage I didn't know if what I did would work for you.
Not sure what plastic the SSie uses for fairings, but if it takes to plastic welding then that's one route, using a good hot soldering iron of around 100 watts and a plastic "medium" that bonds. I used to use peanut butter lids, but possibly Nescafe coffee lids might work. Other option used to be "Plastech" or similar, this name has been pinched by several companies now and availability much reduced and expensive in UK. Pretty sure this is the equivalent but not much quantity for the price:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15401904...EmzKr1twipI80slWArwByfGDvIPSNMzRoCnIAQAvD_BwE I haven't tried this one :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22324152...LOMKOC56HtVTVsEu7gx1GZg12Kbp3YyRoCPLoQAvD_BwE It looks like you've done it ok for now anyway.
