Ssie Shock

  1. It would appear the seal (or a seal) has blown on the shock. Dripping onto the pipe from above and behind the rear pot. For one scary moment there I thought it was petrol, but everything I put my finger in smelled of oil. It's clear and light and there seems plenty on the shock shaft, so I really don't see what else it could be.
If you can replace the seal, I'd rather not given how hard it is, not to mention dangerous, dismantling shocks without special tools.
So far I see I can buy an Ohlins replacement for a grand. I haven't found anyone selling the Showas - though I've barely begun.
    Any suggestions?
I can see me shelling out a grand just to get back on the road soonest.
I've done about 150 miles so far and there's still less than 13,000 on the clock. But, of course, it's mostly sat around for the last 23-odd years.

  2. Sorry but that’s not an option. Other than basic principles of operation, these two shocks are totally different.

  3. Yeah, I've already got a stiff neck trying to look up, so a little more won't matter.

  4. On the track what you feel as plush reaction to inputs, stable ride-height, poise and optimum traction becomes on the road supple reaction to good and bad road surfaces, always communicating, never hammering your spine, and giving you a little more leeway whenever things go wrong. Not as obviously critical as good tyres and brakes, but choose right and you will notice it every ride and enjoy every ride more.

  5. Thanks to all. @Sev and @Keith_P I've got a YSS on the way from JHS.

The red spring will make a nice contrast.

  6. I'm too late to the party, I was going to recommend Maxton though, if anyone looks at this thread later.
Got one on mine and it's mint much better than OE
