Greetings gents. Sold my ST2 a few months ago to a mate and the clutch has just given up. Any recommendation for new Friction plates or hints tips horrors to avoid. He has found some Newfren ones anyone tried these or again point me at some that don't cost the earth Thanks
I put newfren plates in mine a couple of years ago. Didn't do many miles with them, about 1500 but still seamed fine.
barnet clutch plates are what I last used, and they seemed to be (a) dead easy, (b) reasonably priced. the dry clutch is one of the easiest things to do, imho, assuming it is just a case of throwing a new clutch pack in and maybe new springs. here is a kit for £171 - http://www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co.uk/barnett-clutch-kit-ducati-916-996-998-999-s4-st4 - just from a quick google search. basically, I think the dry plate clutch pack is the same for 916/996/998/st2/st3/st4/m600/m750/m900... but somebody may come along and correct me on this. Pete
How can a clutch give up? The friction material should last long past the time when the clutch is making such a racket you end up buying new basket plus friction plates just to quieten it down.
I've had Newfren plates in my Monster for nearly 12k miles, work fine, no problems and plenty of life left in them. I replaced the clutch in my 916 earlier in the year and used Newfren plates in that too, again no problems (although not done many miles yet). Only thing to note is they are aluminium plates and should only be used with an alloy basket, the original basket in the ST2 was likely steel and whilst ally plates would work in it, they would wear at an alarming rate.
