St2 earth leak

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by mjennings, Mar 3, 2013.

  1. Hello all,

my Ducati ST2 has had an earth leak of about 3mA since I bought it last year. The battery goes flat in less than a week and the bike refuses to restart, so I keep the battery charged through the power socket. In investigating the leak, I placed an ammeter between the earth side of the battey and the earth lead, and noticed that the leak reduces, when the main fuse or the display panel fuse is removed, to less than 1mA. Can anyone suggest a likely avenue for further checking, as replacing the display panel doesn't seem a viable option costwise!

    Cheers, MikeJ

Hello again, on checking further, the current drain stops when the LCD display is removed, so it seems to be this or something on the wiring on the other side of the supply, i.e. the horn, water temp. sensor etc.
