St2 Stalling Problem

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by M55russ, Jul 10, 2018.

  1. Hi Guys,
I have just finished a ST2 project and have hit a problem.
The bike starts fine, select first and move off feathering the clutch, as soon as you let the clutch all the way out the bike stalls, any ideas folks.
Note: side stand switch has been illiminated when it was rewired. Fitted a Barnett clutch and 749 clutch master cyclinder.

  2. Additional info...clutch stack is new and measures just over 38mm, after market clutch slave cylinder and clutch pressure plate fitted. Checked the clutch and it spins freely when you disengage the clutch lever.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

  4. Thanks for the replies.
Ran the bike on the paddock stand and let the clutch out and it runs.
It only cuts out when you try to ride it with the engine under load.....?

  5. Is it running on both cylinders??

  6. If it’s running on both you will get an uneven, lumpy sounding tick over.
If it’s running on one, the tickover will be lovely and even but no power...
    Try disconnecting the front plug.
If the motor won’t start, that cylinder is the one that was firing.
If it makes no difference, it’s the that one that’s not been firing.
If it just slows the tickover down, they were both firing.

  7. Is there a micro- switch activated by the clutch lever fitted to your bike?

I'm thinking that the problem could possibly be related to this. Maybe something has shorted out?

Just seen it runs o.k on the paddock stand with clutch fully out so ignore my above idea!

  8. @Martin D yes definitely selecting first
@Old rider just had the TPS, O2 setup and everything balanced at Ducati dealers.
Daft as it may seem I even thinking I may have got the gearing wrong as I have changed the sprockets.

  10. Gearing shouldn’t make that much difference.

  11. Did this happen when you picked it up from being setup?

  12. Does the bike push easily?

  13. @keith916 the bike has just been rebuilt and not tested until this week. The TPS and O2 setup was because it is now running a bespoke 2 into 1 exhaust and cone foam fliters.
@Old rider yes pushes around no problem, why do you ask ?

  14. Been doing some research today and there is talk about it possibly being a fuel pump problem. It has a Radical Ducati tank with a 999 fuel pump fitted. If they is a split hose or a blocked filter under load it may not be getting enough fuel.
Really frustrating when you have just spent the last few years building something and this stops you in your tracks. Someone once said to me it's the last 10% of a build which is the hardest and I can confirm that statement

  15. Just trying to think of things that might cause a stall.
I’m still suspecting only one cylinder though

  16. I heard of something similar a while ago.. that turned out to be valve timing... worth a check if it had the belts off ......

  17. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Appreciate this was a few years ago, but my ST2 project is doing the same thing…

Runs nicely, but stalls in first under load. Really odd.
