st3 givi top box ??

  1. gonna fit a givi top box to my st3
    anyone fitted one?
looking at the big monokey box(55 litres i think it is)
all i need to know is what racks fit with the existing ducati pannier rack
the givi website says none do..but im sure they will
im up for a little bit of jiggery pockery to get racks to fit as im quite mechanically minded
but would prefer a easy straightforward bolt on affair
    any ideas?

  2. I had a nightmare trying to do just this the summer before last with a V46 top box. Although its apparently possible with a little jiggery pokery i could not make it work without having to cut about the pannier frames i already had. I was not prepared to do this just in case i ended up with no panniers either.
Bought what i believe was the last genuine Ducati top box frame that's compatible with their panniers and then simply drilled the Givi top plate to suit the rack.

  3. I had same issue with my ST4s - was lucky enough to have the problem solved through the generosity of fellow member archer17.
A pair of nonfango arms with sw motech adapter plate. I had to fabricate a new top plate but otherwise a perfect fit.

  4. great advice guys much appreciated
    great pics bolsover..thanks for that
looking at the nonfango arms attatching to the side pannier carriers am i right in thinking its just a bolt straight on??

  5. Nonfangfo arms just bolt on - using same top two points as the side carriers. Bit of a fiddle - easiest to remove the side carriers and then re-fit with the top carrier arms.

  6. cheers for that
now the hunt begins for a nonfango rack !!!!

  7. The Givi arms also bolt on to the same mounting points, but if you go the Givi route, you need to get the correct top plate to go with your box, and this costs extra! I've got the Givi bits on my ST3 and the arms and top plate cost just over £100!

  8. ta archer i was going to go the Givi route with this...is it the arms that Givi recommnend on the Givi site you have??...just need to know if theres any welding cutting grinding to be done
ill be planning to get the monokey box the 52litre one

  9. Those are the ones, but they are only the arms, the plate is a separate piece and is about £40. If I remember the arms are something like Givi 675 and you need the plate to get the bits to connect the arms to the plate as they can't be bought separately! Givi's way of making extra money IMHO!

  10. as always eh?
ok thats the way im gonna go
i thought they would fit but the Givi site says not compatible with ducati OE racks !
thats what made me stop n think!

  11. I must say I haven't tried the two together, I just have the rack and top box on and haven't yet needed panniers but was planning to try the two later this year. I think you just need longer bolts, at least that's what I hope!

  12. The 675, which is the correct rack is not compatible with the ducati side panniers.

If you are prepared to hack about a bit and play with spacers you will be able to make it all work but it is not a simple bolt up task.

The OEM kit is the only way to do this without the aforementioned hacksaw and spacer job.

Anyone want to guess how i know ?

  13. Cheers, you have probably just saved me from lots of aggro and gashed knuckles!

  14. not an st but I fitted givi rack to my ss

givi kits mount box about 4" higher than it needs to be

cut the grab rail off the rear end of teh bike and filed what was left flat to get two flat surfaces which I drilled and tapped 8mm threads, made up a couple of short brackets to bolt rack rearwards to clear seat

also made up 2 stays to triangulate rack back to foot peg mounts

rack is stable and entire system can be fitted or removed in about 5 min

can post pics if you like but they are stored on old computer and cant post at present

  15. pics would be great popelli

  16. this is exactly what i wanted to hear
    i wanna know!!! i wanna know !!!!

  17. 'Cos i followed the advice of someone on either here or Ducatisti that said they worked together.

  18. lol ok ..ive got ye now!!!
ok hacksaw n spacers it is !
thanks for all the replies ..really appreciate the time you all took for that

  19. update time

something in my head told me to try gumtree and then.........

  20. Nice one Mark, sounds like you've saved yourself a ton of money to Givi, and hours of aggro getting the Givi stuff to work with the OEM racks!
