St4 Fast Idle

Just bought an ST4 and been for the fist long ride - when I stopped its idling at 2200-2400 rpm and varying up and down - turn off and start again and it idles ok then creeps up again
Any ideas ?

ST4 is fuel injection
I take it the fast idle lever (choke) on the left handlebar used for starting is in the off position.
