Alright people, I am going to go 15/41 on the sprockets on my ST4s, as opposed to 15/38 as standard. The standard chain is 102 link 525, do I need a longer chain to go up three teeth at the back? Cheers, A
Hi Ascalon, I'm running 15/41 with 102 links just counted them for you....so yes it's no problem. Eoin
Larger on the rear is better than 14 on the front but an increase of 3 sounds like a lot to accomodate in the chain without more links. What does it do to the wheelbase if you pull it in enough to wrap around the rear sprocket ?
Nothing that would cause any problems...my chain correctly adjusted with now about 4,000miles since new, is about midway along the notches.
FYI i am running a 42 rear, and 102 limks is specified for this, pulls cleanly to the rev limiter in top no probs, but easier in the 30s and 40s too, would never go back to the standard gearing now.
Sorted this with a set of JT sprockets, 15F and 42R, and a Tsubaki gold x-ring chain. THere's definitely a little more pep in the lower rev ranges, but it pulls nicely through the range. But after getting a silly amount of miles from the previous set, it does make a huge difference to the whole feel of the bike to have a chain that isn't bandy! A
