ST4s exhausts - is it OEM?

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by Ascalon, Jan 26, 2013.

  1. My 2002 ST4s has Remus aluminium exhaust end cans. They are the ones that are a riveted part of the exhaust that allows the cans to swivel up and down for luggage fitment.

They are stamped "Not for road use" under the exhaust outlet.

Now, I have seen the same looking cans on several ST4s, but I am wondering, are they OEM? And if so, why are they stamped, not for road use?

    Cheers

  2. Remus use to make cans for Ducati, it sound's like the orginal cans. If there's a stamp on them. Then its fine. If they have a baffle there fine. Not for road use ?? Sounds odd.

  3. Just had a look at the standard cans which I removed to fit carbon Sils. They are made by REMUS. There are no marks on the riveted endplate where the outlet is. On the outer side there is ZDM B26. On the inner there is 574.1.057.1B REMUS 11. (LH can)

  4. Cheers chaps, I'll have a look and see what part numbers are on mine.

  5. I have a set of OEM cans in the attic although I haven't gone up to look at them I'm fairly confident that what you have is not the original fitment which would have baffles and and E Homologation mark. They are more likely a Ducati Performance item like these.

  6. Aye, 'tis most odd. The mounts on mine are the OEM bracket types as opposed to the strap types seen here, but mine are actually etched with "Not for road use" and do not have removable baffles. They appear, from previous experience, not to mention the whacking great Remus on my ZXR750-R (with a 75mm link pipe!) to be distinctly of the performance variety.

  7. I think what was supplied as DP items depended on what was available at the time so there could be a few variations. DP exhausts are usually marked "Not for road use" or "For race use only"

  8. Cheers Derek. I suspected as much as the original purchaser, I'm the third, said that it had DP stuff fitted and certainly the downpipes are not OEM. Also, it has an airbox lid that is not quite the frame type shown in the DP catalogue, but is factory with a very carefully shaped hole in the back that does not look "Dremmeled", if you know what I mean! Cool beans :)
