Looking for some advice please - I’ve renewed the screw-in plug / rubber grommet where the stator cable exits the alternator housing, my question is before screwing it in, should I use any type of sealant in / around the thread to guard against oil leaks? When I removed it, there were remnants of clear silicone, although not sure if this was from the factory when built or by a previous owner. Thanks!
I put some sealant on but much more important is sealing the wires at the stator end to stop oil travelling up between the cables and insulation. Capillary action will suck it all the way to the other end of the cable. I use 3 bond and let it go off for a few days before I put any oil near it.
Thanks I’m pretty sure the cable itself is the original one from new (1994) having had the cover off for painting / removed the stator etc. There’s no sign of any oil at the connector end of the cable, so I’m pretty confident oil is not making its way through it in my case, too late to seal the stator end as it’s all bolted up now!
