Stators

  1. As I've mentioned in my 999 thread I need to change the stator again.

    As I want to also change the Reg/Rec for a later Mosfet type, which will require it to be relocated, it would be good to get one with some longer wiring to give me more options where I join them to the Triumph lead I'll be using.
    Monster and Multistrada stators have much longer cables for example.

    I'm sort of convinced that all Ducati Stators are actually the same from @2000 onwards, and the different length cables required for different models is the only reason they have different part numbers.
    Can anyone confirm this please?
    Or does anyone know for sure they are different?

    Thanks

  2. I'm not so sure that they are. They appear to be physically similar but from Ducati's own specifications the outputs vary from model to model :
    MTS1200 = 500W
    ST4S = 520W
    749/999 = 480W
    HYP1100 = 480W
    M1200 = 460W
    SS939 = 490W
    Of course the differences in output could depend on how they are measured. Some are quoted at 12V, some at 14V and some don't mention the voltage.

  3. Derek
    Many thanks for that.
    Could I ask where that info came from to help me work out what direction to take.
    Thanks

  4. I just looked up the owners handbooks for these bikes. I have a whole load of then saved as PDFs.

  5. That's interesting.
    Like you I have various Owners manuals as PDFs, so following your lead looked at what they say.

    For all 4 that I looked at:
    04 M1000
    05 999
    03 1000SS
    Sport Classic 1000

    They all say 12V-520W

    However, the workshop manual for the 999 says 12V-480W
    The workshop manual for the 1000SS and M1000 say 12V-520
    And a workshop manual I happen to have for the M620-750ie models says 12V-520W

  6. Since the stator will be off the bike, couldn't you solder some (heavier duty?) leads which are the length you want?

  7. Unfortunately the cables have a potted on sealing gland which I couldn't replicate.

    I could join them after the gland without even removing the Stator from the bike, but they've been compromised by Oil passing up under the insulation and I run the risk of it finding it's way out again somewhere.

  8. So Google would appear to be my friend - again.

    I've uncovered a site that states:

    Stator Size 115/54/18mm for 749/999/1098/1198 (and I assume 848) https://www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/product/g999

    Stator Size 107/42/24mm for Lots of models between 2000 and 2005 https://www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/product/g52d

    Stator size 103/42/24mm for, well just about every other Ducati between @2000 and @2013 https://www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/product/g75d

    And for the sake of completeness
    Stator Size 112/77/30mm for older models https://www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/product/g92

    I obviously need to check this, but it does obviously suggest a difference in physical size.
