Has anyone had a mutli stolen with the electronic steering lock in place? It seems fairly robust and was wondering how much protection they give. I always leave my bike with both steering lock and disc lock in place.
The steering lock is usually no deterrent to the bike thief and I don’t think the Multistrada stands out as being more robust than any other. I use a Grip Lok which applies the front brake and grips the throttle. Multiple lines of defense is always your best bet. Andy
Luckily no BUT i have seen a 2016 Multi in a dealer where they had hammered and bent the pin so it cleared the Flange on the forks, a real mess. The bolts were broken, the lock unit knackered, body work scratched and split where they used a bar to lever the pin up. The steering just about moved enough for them to move and hide it, luckily it had a tracker fitted so was found but couldn't be ridden safely and had to be recovered to the dealer. The lock is a deterrent but if the scum want it they will find a way to get it.
As has been said locks etc are a deterrent. However if scum want to lift it into the back of a van to deal with it elsewhere then they will.
A friend of mine found a gang trying to cut off his Multistrada steering lock with a portable angle grinder, he shouted and they moved away. Whilst he was phoning the police he followed them round the corner and they started attacking another bike. This time when he shouted they came over to him and threatened to cut his throat with it. It caused a shit load of damage and of course the police never caught them...
What 'Law & Order'. No Police on the beat anymore, let alone in a Police Station. You're more likely to win the Lottery than bump into the Police nowadays.
Just don't put your steering lock on whilst parked next to a electric car charging point. The e.m. signal it was genetating sent it doolaly and wouldnt release it. Que breakdown recovery to dealer who thankfully (under warranty).
Just don't engage your steering lock on whilst parked next to a electric car charging point. The e.m. signal it was genetating sent it doolaly and wouldnt release it. Que breakdown recovery to dealer who thankfully replaced the hands free unit (wireless steering lock) and keyfob .....under warranty!
Have to say, my trust in it isn’t without doubt! Another potential electrical gremlin, once it’s out of warranty!
