Steering Stem

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by m@tt, Sep 15, 2020.

  1. On one of my old Honda MX bikes (CR125m1 1975) I found I have a bent steering stem and am struggling to find a replacement .
Is there anybody with a lathe that could turn up a replacement for me for a reasonable fee ?

Can measure or send / drop off the old stem which ever suits

    Thanks

  2. Is it too bent to straighten ?
Someone with a hydraulic press might be able to straighten it for you if it's only a little bit out. That would be a lot cheaper than having a one-off made.
Although it would be simple in terms of stages to make one from scratch there's still a fair bit of work/time involved & if you consider machining costs of £40/hr, which I would guess is on the cheap side.

  3. It might straighten , but prefer to replace if possible.
I know what a good machinist can do in an hour, so hopefully it will be cost effective
If not I’ll look at straightening
