I have the stereo, I have the cage, I have the wiring kit. Should be plug n play, right? Nope...powers up, runs ok, cant get any sound. I have dry fitted, so nothing bolted (i'll come to a question in a sec), checked the wiring diagram. The car has three blocks, one which is yellow is the speakers on my model (non amp or Bose) and when you plug in the adapter the wires that come out match the position of those on the yellow block. Should just work... Couple of questions (its over 20yrs since I fitted a stereo). 1) I have tried to test is power is coming out of the stereo for the speakers, assuming they power the speakers, get a very slight reading but not a lot. What volts should come out of the stereo? 2) As I say, dry fitted, the old cage had what looks like an earth (brown wires) on a bullet type connecter but I haven't fitted it to the new cage or added an earth. Sterow works, will this stop the sound? 3) How else can I check without stripping teh whole f*ing thing? 4) Anyone close enough to come have a look for a few beer tokens!!!! Auto electrician I was recommended load;ly cant come until after 29 May, I want to use it next weekend! Thanks
yip, should swap over. no messing.plug and play, sometimes you have to swap the red and yellow wires around but thats rare.
There must be something wrong then. The harness should 'just work'?! It is a specific one for the car. Just no sound. Anything I can test?
the connectors are called ISO connectors, they're all the same, the yellow and red are just the constant and ignition power supply for the stereo memory. are both 8pin plugs in properly? theres sometimes another bank of connectors small square shaped, for the steering wheel control's are they in?, some of these stereos are pretty trick with more functions than you can poke a stick at, is here a mute button that's been pressed maybe?
I haven't cut wires, to be clear, the yellow I mention is a connery block with all the speakers wires in it and connects to the transition harness
If you don't get anywhere here, ring Dension, they are the specialists for upgrading or adapting Ipod etc to Porsche PCM, not really helpful I know, but they will probably know.
If the system powers up and works, this is either a faulty unit or a simple fix to my mind mate. Gi Fuck me!!!! Whats that ?? That looks way more advance than the one in our gaff
I hope so. It will be going back to halfords tomorrow for them to check it works ok. Thing is, got frame done, fits lovely and the trim fits perfect, its ready to rock when the aerial adapter and DAB aerial tunes up.
If you've got power to the system, then my guess would be either a faulty integrated amp within the system, or something very simple thats being overlooked ??
Its why I wonder if it needs the ground lead fitted somehow. In my mind, you stick a wire in a port one end, wire to speaker, and it just works (its how my home stereo works). But the lead comes out of the loom and the old nav that sits below the old PCM has one fitted to the steel cage too.
To my mind, the unit needs an earth, the speakers do not, have you tried measuring voltage while altering volume control ??
No, when I measure using 20v it shows nothin, at 2 nothing, at .2 its shows 0.1 on the meter so something there
Mate, that could be a meter fluctuation and doesn't sound enough. I have some Monitor Audios in the house that I have just tested for you, and the voltage went above 7.2 at this time of night
Posted on 911.com and a fella there suggests its a different colour connector for the speakers. One which I didn't remember taking off or spot...so I may have an amp fitted somewhere?! Is this part of teh fun of owning a classic car?
