Hi all. Yesterday after a longish ride into and around London I noticed a lot of black liquid, quite watery in consistency on and around the back, right hand ( as you sit on the bike) side. It was on the silencers, the back wheel, swinging arm, rear brake reservoir and hugger. It seems too dark and watery to be just oil and the engine looks clean. My thoughts are 1. The panniers where on and it was a cold wet day, could overly rich smoke be mixing with the rain and condensing on the heat shield on the back of the pannier 2. The rear brake fluid looks very dark, could it have boiled and vented out? There still seems to be a decent amount in reservoir and the brake works ok 3. General oil and crud from the Chain etc ( I doubt this) otherwise the the bike is running fine and doesn't appear to be using any oil any ands all idea welcomed
Part of the result of burning(oxidising) Hydrocarbons (Petrol)....water and carbon soot, plus aload of gases which most are bad for you and the world around
Thanks for the help, it looks like a combination of soot and water and having jet washed the bike before the ride there is every chance a bit of steam from in the pipes as well. I have given the whole thing a good clean so will take it for a spin into town later and hope the problem doesn't reappear.
oh it will...especially in cold weather as the water condensates on the cold pipe when you first start up
