Streetfighter S - which tyres ?

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by Ruffs, Aug 24, 2012.

  1. Any views on tyres that suit this bike? I will be doing road riding, some distance work, and may try it on track - track day novice level that is. Have used Power Pures on an 848, they were great wet and dry. Did you find the standard fitted tyres ok?
    Thanks

  2. I'd try the rosso corsa if I was you or the Dunlop sportsmart.

Both are similar in capabilitys so offer multi compound with harder centre and a much softer edge which gives good grip on track.

Ive ran both on the blade, currently on the sportsmart and I 'think' they're just edging it at the moment.

Ive read loads of reports that the sportsmart last ages, even up to 5k but I'm no where near that.

Sportsmarts run Ntech technology which means when they're more worn you can drop the pressures on track to early-mid 20's, the Rosso's you still kinda have to try like a road tyre.

The one thing you do have to be really careful with Dunlops is they're extremely skippy when brand new. Seriously take your time and perhaps knock that TC up to a decent level until they've ran a couple of heat cycles and you've scrubbed them, my blade span up in 3rd doing about 50mph exiting an island......I thought 3rd at 50mph was taking it easy :)

After that though I can't fault them, did a euro trip to the ring, a Donington tack day and I'm off on another euro trip in 2 weeks all on the same tyres.

Worth the extra £30 premium or whatever it is.

But the corsa are still excellent and I'm sure I've seen deals for 120/190-55's for £200

  3. Hi Damodici
Thanks for this. It has Pirelli Corsa IIIs which are hardly worn. I like Sportsmarts, have them om on my 1000ss really good tyres- imo, agree about skittishness when new. Had Rosso's on a previous bike, didnt like 'em much in the wet, great otherwise.

Picked the Fighter up today, and did 120 mile detour to home on A and B roads and motorway. Got soaked in storm. The bike was great. JHP advised leave TC level at top seting initially, and knock it down as experience on bike builds. Handling is great! Love it, going to take some keeping clean though!
    Cheers

  4. not all the tires fit the streetfighter 1098 from year 2009 to 2012. you guys don't know the issue with the swingarm? tires different than corsa 3 touch the swingarm and ruin the tire.

the issue is documented at ducati and as patch (instead of solution) ducati proposed the change of the rear sproket with one with one touth less.

instead of redeveloping their crap swingarm and issuing a recall they went for the short cheap path. this solution make the wheelbase even longer and many did not fell the bike turning corners the same way.

as matter of fact this issue is resolved in the 848.

    be carefull.

feel free to search around the internet and who knwos italian can even go to the streetfighterforum.it and read the whole story.

ducati.ms has also a thread about this. read the end tho as people did not believe the guy who rised the issue.

  5. I had a streetfighter with Bridgestones on at some point and they were no where near the swing arm, I've also seen plenty running different tyres than corsa 3's so it sounds a bit of an isolated incident to me.

for example this thread here documents the use of plenty of different tyres from different versions of pirellis, Michellin and Dunlop so it's got to be truly bad luck, bad fitting or something weird thats made his tyres rub his swing arm

  6. Alot of people are using the 14t front sprocket so have never seen this problem. You shouldn't have the any problems with tyre / swingarm interface with the 14 on. Got plenty of clearance now with the 14t.
With the std 15t had about 6mm gap between the crown of the tyre and a weld on the swingarm.
Def worth keeping an eye on this.

  7. That would take care of the chicken strip on the nearside then.

  8. is not an isolated issue, ducati has documented the issue now and whoever experience that issue ducati will change for free the rear sprocket not the front one. I know this as i even got a letter from the DVLA has i was one of the first to call the DVLA in UK about this issue....and there are many others but this is not the right thread. although ducati.ms has many threads related to issues on the streetfighter 1098.
