Streetfighter Won't Start

  1. I had my 2014 Streetfighter 848 serviced, mot'ed and fitted with a tail tidy last week; have ridden it twice since, the last time to work yesterday where the battery died. Initially the bike attempted to start but then nothing. Managed to get a jump but still nothing. Thought the immobiliser may be blocking but the CODE function is not available on the dash. Eventually got the bike recovered to home, have checked all the fuses (including the one under the tail fairing) but these are all fine. Any suggestions?

  2. Embarrassing - I had tried to bump start the bike and had left it in gear, hence with the kickstand down would not start. Once the bike was in neutral and the battery fully charged it started fine. Doh!

  3. A little embarrassing perhaps but good news all the same :)

  4. Yep good news. Now I just need to understand why the battery went flat in the first place. But given my current track record I probably left the parking light on! :kissing:

  5. Battery might be weak anyway. Worth getting it checked. If its on its last legs it won't spin fast enough to get it started and the effort will kill off what charge its got left.

  6. Yes good idea. On a similar topic has anyone had any experience with a lithium replacement battery? Are they any better (besides being considerably lighter) and are they worth the outlay?

  7. The tail tidy requires all of the wiring to be packed very tightly under the seat. Has a wire been nicked, maybe, causing a current drain?

Although, batteries have been known to die over the winter.

  8. It was fitted at my local dealership so would hope it was done properly, I realise that is no guarantee though. I did actually take the tidy off whilst searching for the '8th fuse', couldn't see anything that had obviously been nicked but probably wasn't doing the most thorough job at the time if I'm honest. Will take another look if the battery continues to drain.

  9. Latest update - looks like a problem with the battery charging system, the battery is full charge at the beginning of my ride to work and dead by the time I get to the office (1 hour). Possibly the regulator/rectifier, however the bike is back at Ducati for assessment...

  10. My mate had that on his Aprilia. Garage swore battry was fine and passed all tests and it was about to start getting expensive. In a last gasp attempt before handing over his credit card he bought a new battery. Been fine ever since.
