Hi guys I removed my hugger on my 1199 to give it a good clean, upon refitting I stripped one of the threads for one of the hugger bolts. Just wondering if anyone knows the bolts size? I'm thinking it's an M6.. Thinking about buying a Helicoil kit to make a repair, but don't want to buy the wrong one
Sorry I can't help with the problem, but I just want to say I admire the attitude of someone who can finish their post regarding a stripped thread on their 1199 swing arm with a smiley - I'd would be fuming and / or in tears
I'll defo be heil coiling it. Need to find out the exact size of the bolt so I can get the right insert
OK, so its a bodge but as a temporary (or even permanent measure) you could always carefully flatten the bolt thread, so it gets wider but with squashed threads either 'side'......might be enough to get a grip in the stripped thread and its not as though there is a huge load on it and if you are going to eventually helicoil (personally I would use an insert) it won't matter if the b*ggered thread get a bit more b*ggered.
it would be quicker to just use a helicoil than expend time trying out a bodge and you would only have to do the repair once
But some people want to use their bikes while waiting for the appropriate fixings to arrive...... ...but as I said, I would use riv nuts and buy a kit which includes the hand tool, simply because if one thread has failed, no doubt another will in due course.
hopefully that was a joke but don't do it, nothing worse than working on a bike bodged together with a mixture of metric unc and whitworth bolts, you need 3 sets of spanners / sockets and most of the time you pick up the wrong tool = more rounded off nuts and bolts
