Had an interesting scenario here earlier. I’m working from home at the moment but am also the person the neighbours come to when they need help. Following a knock on the door I found a neighbour asking if I could come and help another neighbour who was stuck in her car. The lady in question I don’t know very well, but she did have an interesting problem. She’d returned home from dropping her kids off at school in her automatic Mercedes, which is a couple of years old I suppose. Her drive is very steep, and she’d driven down the drive on her brakes to within about a foot of her garage door and stopped. At which point she discovered the gear selector was moving about but having no effect whatsoever and the car was stuck in drive. She then tried to turn the engine off with the engine start/stop button, but that was also inoperative, possibly because the car was in drive. So there she was pointing down her steep drive right in front of her garage door with her foot firmly on the brake unable to move. Luckily she managed to get the attention or her next-door neighbour who came and got me. The poor lady in the car was panicking a bit as you can imagine, and was considering just piling it into the garage door by that stage. I thought about just putting some blocks under the front wheels to stall the car, but with her drive being so steep I was concerned it would just jump them, so disconnected the battery which stopped the engine. As you can imagine, the poor lady was a little stressed afterwards, but has promised to let me know what Mercedes have to say about it as she was going to ask the to come and collect it. Nasher.
