748 Sub Frame

  1. hi chaps, does any one know the weight difference between the steel bip sub frame and the alloy R one,as im thinking of putting one on my track bike.cheers

  2. The alloy one is a lot lighter, fitting one to a biposto is not a straight swap as the loom at the rear is longer. Is it worth it on a track bike, probably not as the weight difference is quite minimal in the greater scheme of things. If you have the longer rear loom then it might be worth looking for one but it's pretty hard to get one at a decent price, they are sought after. There is one on eBay at the moment but the starting bid is \was £275.

  3. I fitted one to mine, I didn't weigh it though but there is a big difference - a 2-3 kilos maybe?

As above the loom will not reach as the ECU sits in a different location (mine did anyway) but I managed to 'gain' a few inches by undoing the tape, extending a few wires, pulling it all back and re-taping it to suit.

I also fitted an underseat breather box so had to move the ignition/fuel pump relays which meant they needed to be extended as they won't sit in the same place, otherwise I could have got away with only having to extend the cable to the temp sensor under the headlight as all the other wires were (just) long enough.

  4. sounds like its worth getting, well im going to modify it to fit my ecu by welding some small alloy plates onto it so i can mount it the bip way.

  5. :upyeah: If you're not doing the underseat breather box then that will save you modifying the wiring.

  6. thats the plan mate, just wanted to know that its worth it,cheers for the info chaps.
