Hi everyone. I'm wanting to set the static sag on my 848 Corse, but not sure where to start. I know what the idea is and that it's basically adjusting the preload, but the measurements etc. and how best to do it aren't all that clear to me. Has anyone done this (on any bike) and does anyone have a link to a good guide that I could read about it? Thanks in advance. Andy
research on the ohlins web site it demonstrates the three measurements.......front and back and how to interpret the information.....
I went with Rider sag (40 front, 30 rear). Bike is much more comfortable (rear had about 10mm sag as stock) but.... When i went to Louigi moto he mentioned he prefers static sag at 15mm (no rider) over rider sag but he mentioned that his method or mine lowers the rear ride height by a fair bit so you need the adjustable link to raise it again or the geometry is out. First thing i did when i got home was to put my adjustable link back on (rod ends were shot so took it off) and raise the rear a touch more and it's a night and day better. So he was spot on and next time i'm over he is putting it on the ride height setup jig and setting it all up accurately. My advise is that you can make it better but a trip to someone who knows Ducati's will eek out some better handling over your own settings generally. I would add Louigi Moto offered to set it up free whilst having a general service and i can't fault them if you are remotely near Bristol.
Thanks guys, that's a big help. I'll check out the Ohlins site and see what it says in comparison to Lougi Moto's settings / advice. I'm up in Scotland mate, but gather that ERS at Knockhill can do setups if I can't manage it myself. Thanks.
Shit, I forgot about those! Cheers. I'll check them out again... The place I sent the enquiry to called me back straight away (at 8:45pm) and talked me through what they can do. It's pretty extensive and sounds just the ticket. Full Bhoona setup, road testing until I'm happy, fixed price of 90 clams. Sounds a lot, but it's an important job and they know Ducatis and suspension. Currently looking in the piggy bank and trying to negotiate with Mrs. P.
Its so easy, if you can get a spare set of hands. 10 min job if you have a c spanner for the rear, front piece of piss
Ok... Wee update here --> My Blog The short version is that the bike handles miles better afterwards. I was finding that it wanted to run wide and it was really brought to a head at the track evening I went to at the end of May. I've never been happy tipping into 30-40mph corners and roundabouts and this has totally cured that feeling and it has totally eliminated the feeling that it wants to run wide in corners. It rides the road much better too, night and day type better. Really pleased with it! Andy
