1200 Suspension Set Up

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Adie, Mar 23, 2015.

  1. After at last getting a multi ,skyhook gt , the suspension set ups seem to be endless .After having vfrs , blackbirds etc the set ups on them were very limited .Was wondering the best place to go for some advice on set up whether it be the dealer or some specialist .Have used mct before in Stowmarket who were very good , just wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere in the Midlands .

  2. As its mega adjustable, and more by seat of pants than traditional set up, if the sag is ok then I'd just have a fiddle tbh.

I started medium soft/medium/medium hard for the 3 modes (never use enduro so left as was) and only in one up preload setting and seems to work pretty well. On track I did pump sport up to max which was great there, loads less travel used, but not for the road.

It is so easy to change, no tools required, why not just have a mess about :upyeah:

  3. I'll jump in before @AirConTechnical - Don't forget the pre-load on the front forks. Manual adjustment on the right hand fork.

  4. B*llocks...missed that one.

    Don't forget to
    1. Ignition off.
    2. Disconnect wires to top of fork leg.
    3. Mark with pencil or pen.
    4. "Undo" completely noting how many turns.
    5. "Do up" completely noting how many turns.
    6. Make your best guess at what you want, noting how many turns "doing up" or "undoing", your choice.
    7. Reconnect fork leg wires.
    8. Ignition on...
    9. Ride and Enjoy (or repeat steps 1-9 until happy with front pre-load).

  5. I think @AirConTechnical was thinking of Ohlins forks as steps 2 & 7 aren't required for Skyhook forks as the pre-load is only on one fork leg (right, not left as said in my previous post - now corrected). All the damping is done in the left hand fork leg and that's the only one with an electrical connection.

  6. I am no suspension guru, but making sure tyre press is correct is a good thing.
Whats usefull on the MS compared to other bikes, are the switchable settings. On the fly, switch from one set of paramters to another.

  7. Dude, you are correct I was writing a generic set of instructions.
As you rightly point out the skyhook doesn't need the electric bit removed.

As the main in orthopaedic shoes said.....

    I stand corrected.

  8. As said once the static sag/ slump is right it's a suck it and see, there's no hard fast rule with the skyhook as it adjusts according to road conditions and speed, apparently it's suppose to keep the bike at an optimal level. Load of bollocks if you ask me but hey oh who am I to say otherwise.

  9. The key is the preload. The Skyhook works off height. Unfortunately, we don't have any idea what the ideal sag is.

I'm not sure how the front affects it as I haven't played with it. But with the back, when setuip properly, on smooth roads, say fresh motorway, the ride is like a magic carpet.

Get preload right, then the damping which varys by surface and riding style.

I came full circle. Except for Urban where I upped the preload a bit, I returned everything to default on solo rider.
