does anyone know if a trial tides legal ie passes MOT I have bene told the number plate needs to be beyond the rear wheel ?
That's a bit specific, but never known it be a problem in UK (not what you're asking, but I thought I would answer the question I can answer). When I got my Triumph back from having MOT at dealer the first time, they'd helpfully stuck on one of those small round reflectors on number plate light, and I think some places want to see those, but otherwise, no problem with wheel extending past plate. You could do what most of us do and distract them from the tail tidy by having a obnoxiously loud race pipe? Just a thought...
I think the OP is correct, in that the reg. plate is supposed to be beyond the rear wheel, which is why the factory tail tidy positions it as such. Can't remember where I've seen this though. However, like many other people, whether I've fitted my own or the bike already had one, I've never had any MOT mention an issue with the tail tidy and I can't see any mention of its position in the MOT Inspection Manual. Rear lighting, plate lighting and reflectors are another matter and you can find the requirements here (sections 4.7 and 4.8): https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-ins...s/4-lamps-reflectors-and-electrical-equipment
