The Mrs has just bought me a new tablet, and very nice it is too! However, I want to download tv shows and films to it to watch offline. Does anyone know any good sites for this? I use iTunes to watch stuff on my ipod but obviously this is Android?
Google play store is the android equivalent. However you can watch illegally downloaded movies on an android tablet using an app called vlc.
Yeah, I've browsed the Google store but it's not great. Maybe I'll have a look at that app, allegedly!
The app itself is not a problem. It's just a media player that covers a lot of file formats. You'll have to provide the films yourself
Android offers a far easier and format friendly OS compared to Apple, plenty of media apps you just need a source for the movies...
I'm happy to pay for stuff, I just need a decent selection and be able to download rather than stream.
And as far as I can work out you can't download stuff from the Google store, only stream. This is no use to me as I want to watch stuff on the train for the dull commute.
On the google store when you download a magazine (I never use the video part) there's a menu option to "store on device"
To be hones I only noticed it last week....if you want to get your own films and put them on go and google for a bit of software called "Handbrake" - its free....now I don't know if it strips the protection out of an original dvd (I think it does) - that will re-encode your film and squash it down then you can transfer it to your device. If it doesn't then you need a bit of software called "imgburn" - free as well. This will strip the dvd and transfer it to your pc so that Handbrake can get at it and then re-encode/squash it down. A dvd should squash down to about an eighth of the size....hope that helps.
I've just Googled it and realised what the little 'Pin' is for! I'll check out those other bits of software ;-)
No prob - let me know if you get stuck...once you get into handbrake on the right hand side theres and "Android" template - highlight that and it sets everything up automatically....it dumps the film I think into my documents, maybe my videos...
Also try netflix or android own TV & Movies app, this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.videos
