This is my next task ahead of that deadline the 1st may which is my unofficial 1st day of spring. Whereby my bikes are awoken from their slumber and ridden. My bike is like many on here, road going with occasional amateur track days by a competent road rider but novice TD rider. So who sells them the cheapest? 1 down at front or up at rear or leave alone? 520 vs 525? Whats that all about? Steel rear vs alloy rear and carrier? What are the best combos?H How many links on a chain? Is it 96? I don't know about anyone else but I dremel the heads of the rivets off my old chain and use the breaker for the rest of the job.
Gearing wise I'm not sure I'd change it on an 1198, as I recall on mine you could pick the front up at 80-90mph and with one gear change see 140+, not sure I'd want shorter gearing than that
I'd just like it to be less lumpy when i ride through towns and villages etc at 30mph or less. Top end isnt really something I care about. Its grunt that gives me a semi. So I would like to do the equiv of 1 down at front as this worked well on my 916. I suspect and have read that its better to go up at the rear instead. Theres an 1199 thread where the guy went up to 41 at the rear. Is this too much or would +1 at the rear be better. Or just keep it stock. Also whats the difference between 520 and 525 chains? I'm primarily a road rider.
