The Baron's New Bike

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Robarano, Jun 16, 2018.

  1. A BMW HP4 Race. :motorcycleduc:

Anybody watching his or the 44 Teeth Youtube channel would have seen him drooling over these for a while.

Fair play to him, it's a lot of cash for a track bike, but he seems in love with the thing. :) :upyeah:

  2. Anyone else find the last bit creapy

  3. Can’t abide the guy. Gets right under my skin.

  4. Watched this yesterday. So I assume he sold the R1M?

  5. Sorry....unless your a multi millionaire (he may be) its too much to throw down the road.....r1m would be have been better pound for pound but you can't deny its a beautiful piece of hardware...!

  6. It's nice but regular inline 4's sound shite IMO. For that amount of money I'd want it to sound epic too.

  7. Dude, listen to the onboards, it sounds epic..... The audible traction control sounds epic

  8. Doesn't do it for me sound wise I'm afraid. My Mums corsa sounds better :joy:

  9. Really? Her Corsa sounds better?... video or it didn't happen.

Most IL4 engines sound kind of bland I agree, but some have something. The R1 has the crossplane wail and the hollow guttural bellow of a GSX-R has been inherited by the S1000RR, they actually do sound mega. At full chat on the TT course the BMWs sounded anything but bland.

I'm a fan, but do agree that it's a lot of money for a track bike. BvG isn't short of a bob or two, and he's had / has his demons so I don't begrudge him. If nothing else, he's been very candid about his mental health concerns and given the laddish nature of his / 44 Teeth channel that's very good for awareness of a delicate and often hidden subject.

  10. I agree that some regular inline 4's sound better but it's not enough for me to consider buying one one, no matter how good the bike is overall. I've only owned Ducati's and Aprilia's as they generally sound pretty awesome. The R1M could be the first non Italian bike I buy but then that's not a regular inline 4 and i think it sounds pretty sexy

  12. I'm not one for I4's usually either but the audible traction control + the way the HP4 picks up and loses revs is amazing! Audible TC is a game changing idea, much like IMU's and slide control, I bet it will work it's way into everything soon, I'd really love it on my bike. I have a hard time trusting electronics.
It is just a full WSBK engine with endurance racing heads on it... so it's trick as you get without entering MotoGP madness. Amazing.

I've pawed over a HP4 up close at Goodwood FoS last year and the thing is a work of art. Unlike anything else I've seen, even the 1299 Superleggera. The Bimmer is just pure engineering porn, every detail of it is just drool worthy.
It's sort of remarkably cheap for what you are getting...

Think he said track day insurance on one is around the £500-600 mark. Doesn't seem that bad considering.

  13. He wanted the viewers to donate,...how kind'

  14. I don't think that was ever going to pan out but the idea started off with 'lets all buy one together' and the rough plan was, those who joined in would get to have a go.
Obviously that would be almost impossible to manage without someone writing it off or something daft, so no shock it didn't happen.
44Teeth is a social media company remember. The whole point is to try and make the viewership feel more involved.

I'm quite pleased the Baron got one because he will share the experience with those of us who will never ride one. There will be plenty of footage and stuff on his channels about it. Seems more fun for the rest of us than them being snapped up by collectors and maybe seeing one private track day or two before being mothballed after the owner buys the next big thing.

  15. I like him. I think he's quite funny. The HP4 Race. An amazing weapon and why not if you can stretch to it. Not my bag though, I'd sooner have the SL2.
The HP4 Race sounds like it's pumping out more than 220 bhp though. Wouldn't mind a shot on one.

  16. 209 at the rear wheel according to the only test on a DynoJet I can find...

Kinda dissapointing as even the BMW techs have been confidently saying 220 crank is just the lowest figure and they are all 'much more.'

Normal motors need some miles on them to reach their best figures right? but I assume a race engine is fully broken in within the factory? 'Identical to a WSBK engine but with endurance racing heads...' I'm guessing it should be at it's peak right out of the box then.
    S
econd guess is it's same issue as the Ninja H2R, that you can't replicate the ram air effect in a dyno room, so peak figures on the machine don't reflect reality?

  17. Without watching the video do they happen to say what octane the fuel is? I saw one last week on YouTube and the owner had just put a little normal 'gas' in it, which is petrol to you and me, but it's also only 93 in the states where as in Germany 95-98 is standard, but they also have a good range of 100+ from memory

  18. The HP4 Race will be (like the HP4 before it) a showcase of the technology that’ll be available on standard bikes within a few year.

  19. I used to think he was a prize nob when he first started out. I’ve warmed to him more recently, though his voice does still get on my tits sometimes, as he can come across as condescending.
