  1. Well I have seen it now (for anybody who read the previous related thread), and I haven't stopped smiling yet.

When she was fired up, it seriously put the hairs up on the back of my neck.

The following spec list (as requested by a forum member) is as close as I can at the moment, but I have agreed with JHP for them to carry out a full strip and clean of the engine and to document exactly what is inside, and put my mind at rest on the condition.

  3. Jaw-droppingly gorgeous...!! :Woot:

  4. Very trick 916sps for sure and looks mint condition.Nice one you must be well chuffed with the purchase.

Great bike on the track in that spec but I was told by JH the corse cams make them a bit of a dog to ride on the roads which stopped me adding them to mine.Bet it handles and brakes like a dream but im slightly surprised by the power figures with corse heads, cams ,gas flow and omega hi comp pistons etc.

Here is a dyno chart of my standard engine 916sps (custom map/akrapovic evo full system) at jhp on there dyno.I was considering engine work with bucci hi comp piston /cyclinder kit/crank balance etc and maybe some large throttle bodies from ducati kamna. But if i shelled out for all that and got another 3-4 hp id be mighty pissed off to be honest.I guess yours has a hefty boost to the torque curve though.

    :upyeah:

  5. Of Corse there is...

  6. So for all the ducati tech gurus out there how would a big bore kit rate against the more usual hi comp piston, crank balance and gas flow route for power and torque.Like this stunning example.

  7. That figure of 140bhp came from the magazine article published in 2002. I haven't seen a dyno printout for the power or torque but once JHP have done their refresh I'll get a current dyno run and post the result.

I do know the bill from JHP in 2002 was £10k for the engine work alone, so you would hope for a few more horses.

    Thanks for all the likes!

  8. I bet when its refreshed you see more than 140 on JHP dyno and torque curve should be very nice.

  9. std sps over 130...only on certain dynos ;)

  10. JH himself seemed very surprised by the results for my bike. They had just had a 999R on the dyno before mine and that gave expected figures. They told me that mine is by far the best standard sps they have had on there dyno.Maybe a good day at the factory.Cant remember if these older 97/98 sps engines where production line or sent over to ducati corse for assembly in the good old days.

Got another one done at a later date for EVR airbox mod. That one showed 130 but better midrange.I was disappointed but John stated up to 10% difference in dyno results depending on atmospheric conditions.

However since that one Buzz replaced all the valve collets on last service and it pulls like a train now compared to before service.Noticed a big difference after that and front was lifting even with longer swingarm and dp yokes placing more weight over the front.I should really get it on the dyno again after the valve collets were replaced but sick of spending on dyno as its running sweet.

  11. Matt, i have a copy of Superbike mag dating back to 1997 where they tested a big bore 1026 bike.

The dyno test in the article says it made 142 bhp @ 11,200rpm (??) and 84ft/lb at 8,000 rpm.

At 6000rpm its making 60bhp and at 8000rpm it makes 130bhp. 70bhp jump in just 2,000rpm.

If you want a copy of the article, let me know and i will copy it for you.

  12. "I have agreed with JHP for them to carry out a full strip and clean of the engine and to document exactly what is inside, and put my mind at rest on the condition."

Does the engine builder not have a documented history of the engine build? I know they sometimes stamp or etch an extra letters/numbers on to the back of the crankcases for their identification....especially something built to that magnitude/spec...?

  13. something like this on another one..that would get you the build spec seems a bit sorry and expensive to split the crank cases on something that is running well ..

  14. No, JHP built the engine in 2002 and they tell me they have had two software changes since then and haven't got any records of what they did, though they can remember doing it and roughly what is in it.

The guy that paid for the work to be done, moved house last year and wondering why he was keeping all the paperwork on a bike he no longer owned, burnt it all, DOH!

The bike has been stood doing nothing for a long time, and when it was started on Monday for my benefit, I was concerned that there was a fair bit of white-ish grey smoke, that I believe could be the piston rings stuck, it did however sound fantastic.

The bike has done 1000 miles since being built in 2002 so by having JHP strip and rebuild the engine I will know, and not wonder, what condition it is in.

It will be interesting to see if there is anything stamped on the crank case.

  15. yeah worth a look all over really and on the cylinder heads i guess given your potential spec...

you got your deep pockets ready.....;)

  16. Sounds awesome, my sps just standered from the factory other than cosmetic mods, just wondering if anybody knows if a set of front ohlins off a 999 would fit my 916sps 1998

  17. I agree. My std SPS is 124bhp on a non-JHP dyno.

  18. My 98 916bp made '114bhp' after a full monty by snells, although I suspect thats another dodgy dyno as some people have scoffed at it. Plus Ive lost the damn charts, or what really happened is wifey probably recycled the A4 sheets. If you leave anything paper around its bloody recycled.
Just a monty, full50's and bmc filters only.

  19. Picked the bike up today.........let the fun begin!
