Errr...... Well actually it's going to be more like the little lost kitten excursion...... As im currently in work as a lorry driver AND on a bank holiday Monday, which absolutely sucks !!! As all Ive seen is bike after bike, loaded up and heading down towards Dover/Folkestone on the M20 the jammy sods..... So jealousy has definitely got the better of me,as Ive now put in a holiday request for 3 weeks starting this Thursday, and with Europe as my playground lol. My only issue is,I can normally spend months planning a route, with the usual guys I travel with... But this time it's going to be definitely "Destination unknown",as I've got absolutely nothing planned as of yet,and as I've only just put my holiday request in,and due to the lack of notice, I will undoubtedly be a proper Lone Kitten !!! But at least it will beat all the random DIY jobs that I had planned for the week ahead.. Thankfully I am fortunate to have travelled extensively around Europe over the years, and with the usual haunts all ticked off my to do list, and along with my trusty tent as a back up option, fingers crossed all should be OK...... But any random destinations I need to visit,I'm all ears ???
Have a great trip. I hadn't solo toured until 2019 and really enjoyed the experience of riding across the Picos and half way down Portugal to the Serra da Estrela for a few days.
Since the weather at this time of year is so great, riding along the coastal areas is wonderful with lots of beachside views. The Normandy coast has loads of WWII and incredible food, the west coast charming and always uncrowded. You will quickly be in San Sebastian and Spain with the Pyrenees for the mountain rides...
Lol....... I'm not sure a GSXS750 cuts the mustard on a Ducati forum,so will definitely limit the number of bike pics, just incase admin decide to cancel my subscription that I've just paid for lol..... That said,I could actually do with the fiver back,as looks like I need new rubber front and rear before I even think of going anywhere... D'oh !!
Im off to Monaco in September, with my normal riding clan,so probably will give France a miss for now..... That said,I'm planning on at least looking at a map later tonight.......
You'll be pleasantly surprised, there a lot of Gixxer fans here! I just always smile when reading wonderful travel threads describing the mountains, castles, beaches & people and 90% of the pics are of a Mutley parked at the side of a road, or an occasional pic of a plate of fish or burgers!
My Son has 10,000 pictures of his Japan stay, i'll pop them all up for you lol. There are not so many motorcycles but lots of landscapes and some food pictures, some of fish but certainly no burgers.
I took a three week holiday on the bike and went to Oslo to see the Kon-Tiki museum. Weather was ace, really lucky.
I built a replica of that vessel back in Middle School, from Balsa wood and what a royal pain in the ass it was too.
I read the book before going. It was Dad that told me about this when I was a kid. Thought it was epic, and found out much later that the actual Kon-Tiki raft is in a museum in Norway, so had to go and see it. Good work ! must have looked good when finished. Couple of my books about it.
Cheers for all the replies chaps....... As you have all definitely given me food for thought to sleep on...... Although im officially now in no fit state to look at maps tonight (beer in hand) The Kon-Tiki museum has given me a brainwave overload.... So I have rode through Denmark,Norway Sweden before just under 3 years ago,and was gutted that I never actually got to see the Vasa in Stockholm.... AND after a quick Google search, the Abba museum is only an 8 minute walk away, and as Abba are a guilty pleasure of mine, and with no mates in tow... What could possibly go wrong lol
Well, if you go to the Kon-Tiki museum, make sure you pop over to look at Amundsen's boat too! There's also the ski-jump museum too, in Holmenkollen - 20 mins from central Oslo... You can get to the top of the jump
So just a quick update... As I seriously now think that I have definitely bitten off more than I can chew,as it all seemed a good idea on Monday,as my jealousy took hold at the copious amount of riders going on their jollies...... As I should know by now... Rule 1 Preparation is key... Rule 2 Research is paramount.... Rule 3 Dont over pack !!! But forget all that crap,as I think I'm about to break every rule in the book lol As I've now also had to have today off work,to have fresh rubber fitted, along with a set of pads up front, and work out the essential camping gear I need to take..... So fingers crossed all goes ok today,as Im now all booked for the Eurotunnel tomorrow morning.... Also,as a few threads mentioned boats and burgers,I thought id stick with this simple itinerary. As decided to finally get to see the Vasa warship in Stockholm, that I missed out on during a previous visit to Sweden. So I've been a busy bee,and have now booked the Puttgarden/Rodby Ferry from Germany into Denmark, along with the Øresund bridge from Denmark into Sweden.... Then one beer in,AND it all went wrong !!! As I got carried away with my multitasking skills, whilst switching between Ebay and YouTube,as I pressed "Buy It Now" for a one way ferry ticket from Sweden to Finland.... As apparently the burgers at the Ace Cafe in Lahti are banging..... Will upload a bike and burger piccy asap lol
