The Middle Aisle - Aldi / Lidl ..... Bargains

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by oldtech, Nov 27, 2019.

  1. There have been some good posts on here about decent quality stuff at bargain prices .
For example , paints and lacquers on someone's current restoration project , and some good looking chain products as well .

I thought it might be useful to have an ongoing thread to post these things ?

When I say " The Middle Aisle" , you know what I'm talking about .....

It's the place that your better half tries to keep you away from , even if it's only because you are not paying enough attention to the vitally important grocery shopping ( and that's before you've even tried to put anything in the trolley !! )

" Oh look darling , they've got fresh Loganberries "
    ..... or
" Hey Dave , you can get a 3 kilo matured sirloin steak , on offer "

    [ Drat .... I've lost my train of thought now ! ]

Oh yeah .... this week there's a tray of fibre washers on offer at Aldi
150 items in 12 different sizes , well worth having at 3 squid , IMO

Next I'd like to have the same sort of thing in copper washers .

But for now I'll have to keep wishing for that " selection box " tray of Ducati valve shims .
The one that the dealers have .... costs about a grand , last time I asked .
    :)

Anyway , please post any good value offers that you see .

  4. Best thing I got was a 12v pump for oil changes. I’ve unflooded the kitchen with it, change the power steering pump fluid and changed the oil on the van. Slow flow rate but did the job mess free

  5. Best things I bought from the Midl of Lidl was some compression thermals (top and bottoms) for the princely sum of £14.

  6. Best offer I got was a reindeer styled onesie.
It’s difficult to get the crash hat over but it’s very warm and looks a treat.

  16. Digital calipers ..... £8 in Aldi today

I've had these before from various places and always taken them back
.... because they were shite .

[ Still got the same perfectly good calipers that I've had forever ,
but my eyes can't manage the vernier scale anymore ..... and I can never find my reading glasses ! ]

This has constantly repeatable measurements , and returns to zero every time
and it tracks properly , no matter how fast you slide it .

All stainless steel , and the jaws line up without a crack of daylight through them .

It's also got a button that calculates circumference after you take a diameter measurement .... I've not seen that before
.... handy for folks who are too thick ( or too lazy ) to multiply by 3.14 ...

I'm still trying to find fault with it ..... but no luck so far ... :)

  18. never thought of that!

  19. Down here there was an impact driver for the equivalent of 50GBP that is so good it’s legendary. They were being bought in bulk and then re-sold on the local version of ebay for almost double the price.
