hi guys ive removed all the bits and bobs off my track 748,lights, wiring, fan etc etc , and thinking of removing the thermostat aswell to have the coolant free flowing, ive heard good and bad theories about it, anyone done it to there track bike ?? will it make any odds?? cheers.
I'm not a race prep expert but I can't see removing the thermostat being any benefit? It's not as if it weighs much and it'll take longer to warm up. The fan yes as it's only needed in traffic etc. but I'd think leaving the 'stat would be best?
It would slightly speed up flow through the system if you did remove it but I doubt it is necessary. Also on cooler days it will take longer to get up to working temperature. True race bikes often don't have thermostats but you then have to spend a long time getting the bike warm enough before you can safely ride it. There was someone selling on eBay a cobbled up set of welded pipes that were roughly the shape of the thermostat housing so that you could connect all the water pipes, personally I see no real benefit. My son has a full race 748 that he used in the Maaxis challenge a few years back and he has the thermostat in place but the fan removed.
