they search for brighter lights...........

  1. emms 748 headlights are fackin dire .......candles in sea fog would be brighter ......anyone suggest any upgrades :upyeah:

  2. have you got 'mist' on inner face of glass? - half the 748/9** I see have and it helps (a little) to remove it. Other trick is to rewire so both beams remain on (when on main) but you might have done this already..

  3. no there really bad on both full and dip no improvement at all .......

  4. I used to use Osram Silverstar bulbs for mine a few years back (might have been H4? Can't quite remember, but I think I have an old spare one knocking around at home so could have a look) - there's probably some even better bulbs available now. Maybe have a look on Amazon or Demon Tweeks. They made a whopping difference - enough so I could actually see where I was going at night rather than not seeing anything at all

Also, as mentioned above, take the headlamp unit off and clean behind the glass on both sides (use a small rag on the end of a chopstick to get into the corners ) - well worth doing as they get really grimy.

edit: newest and bestest ones might be Osram Nightbreakers?

  5. cheers bud , my 8's lights are pants too

  6. I've never got round to upgrading the lights on the 848, they're not good, but not as woeful as the 748 ones.

  7. I used to commute from bulford Salisbury upto Barnsley to see emm on the 996 and didn't really have any dramas but these aren't just bad on the 7 there like 40watt bulbs ........ Shite

  8. I have just fitted some Xenon bulbs in mine, they claim a 40% increase in brightness, I haven't tried them at night yet so cant really comment. Remember they are only 55w bulbs and for some reason my dip was a H3 and main beam a H4 don't know if this is normal or not but worth checking before any purchase.
    Steve

My Xenon are direct replacements not a kit.

  9. I have an Osram Nightbreaker in my Monster and it's pretty decent, the other thing to check is the wiring delivering the correct current, use a volt meter to measure the current at the bulb connector if it's much less than battery voltage with the engine running then you should fit a relay to get the voltage up and thus the brightness :upyeah:

  10. I can confirm that HID is the way to go. I've got a scorched arse after being followed by my brother's HID-equipped duc:frown:

  11. Indeed, don't waste your time & money on '+50%' bulbs or whatever as it will just give you 2 candle power - swap the low beam for a HID and fit a 100w high beam... :upyeah:

  12. Be wary of doing the two lights mod on the 748/9xx especially the early bikes as it will push the load on the alternator and rectifier close to/over its max setting, particularly if you don't maintain a clean fuel filter and keep all the main connectors and relay seats in the loom absolutely clean. If you do the mod, first get rid of the alternator - regulator/rectifier plugs and replace them with something that provides no resistance (not those nasty cheap bullet connectors from Halfords or Maplins). Otherwise it will be a new stator and regulator, maybe a battery and a breakdown.

  13. This kind of advice is the very reason why I hang around forums. Good sense given freely, thanks very much Denzil.

  14. so what you're hinting at so far, is that on '95 916, do not attempt this mod without making the necessary checks and/or mods to your charging and rectififying system?

Thanks for the info so far, fellas.
