They're All At It...

  1. Have you noticed when you go out for an Indian, or a Chinese and order one of their national bottled (pricier) beers, they always arrive ready opened at your table? If there are several of you, put the bottles together and you'll probably see that there is quite a variation in the level of the contents, clearly indicating they've been refilled from the draught Carling (or similar cheaper brew) tap earlier in the day in readiness for the evening's mugs.

They get very defensive if you make a show of comparing the levels. This scam is international. I first twigged it in Bristol many years ago and have since seen it in 95% of Asian eateries I've visited since. In Madrid, they poured the 'Tsing Tao', it went in the glass with a momentary froth and by the time I took the first sip, it was flat! God knows how long it had been sitting in its open bottle.. The remedy is to drink for free, as they have never had the gall to charge for it,if contfronted, or alternatively, insist they open bottles at table

  2. Maybe it's just the places that I go to, but the two Chinese restaurants that I use most often - expensive one in Tavistock and cheap one in Southsea - both open the bottles at the table...

  3. Nothing surprises me tbh. Ours arrive already in a glass o_O

Keeping on the theme of Chinese restaurants, why are ALL their menus exactly the same as the next restaurant and why haven't they been updated since the 1970’s?

Its one of my favorite scrans but its all a bit tired now and we only have one restaurant left near us when we used to have at least half a dozen.

They need to up their game!
