hi guys,im thinking of buying my friends hypermotard 796 (sc show bike) ive only had sports bikes in the past, currently got 1999 r1,2001 748r and 748bp track bike, has any one made the change from a sports bike to a motard and regreted it?? is it the sort of bike you have for 6 months and get bored of it?? its a 2011 bike,black,2k on the clock £5500.
not gone to a motard as such but... i've always had sports bikes up untill last year when felt i needed to slow down on the road because of doing loads of trackdays on the 916 & GSXR. got myself an XR400R enduro bike...has had road tyres on it thru the summer for the commute to work and it's a right laff. much more nimble thru traffic, quicker away from the lights. mine likes to get it's knobblies on and get muddy too....
I've always had 4 cyl sports bikes so was a big change for me. Wanted a naked to keep the high speeds down and was pretty much set on a cb1000r until I tried the hypermotard and loved it. Took a lot to get use to the power delivery with no mad 4 cyl rush but it, s totally changed my riding now, no more constant chasing revs I'm happy to ride at any speed. It's super comfortable, nimble and I love I can see over the top of cars so I get much better vision. Will you get bored? Really depends what you want out of it. If you genuinely want to slow down on the road yet still have great fun upto a ton then it's fantastic and will keep up with anything in the tight twistys.I love mine and intend keeping it for quite some time.
I bought mine with the exact same thoughts as you 3yrs ago and have never regretted it, when the sun's out it's often the bike I still choose to get out of the garage now. Buy it, change the end cans, fit a Leo Vince decat pipe kit and have the ECU remapped by either CJS or BSD as it makes the world of difference to all round ride of the bike. You won’t regret it
Agree with the comments from HyperC - you will not regret it. I switched from an R1 to the Hyper 1100 over 4 years ago and have modified it to suit the riding I do. Replaced the useless flip out mirrors and fitted an extended range tank. If you are currently riding an R1 you may want to consider the 1100 rather than the 796. Cheers, Moses.
cheers guys, its got all the decat and remap done to it,plus lots of carbon and single sided exhaust system, renthal chain and lower geared sprokets, and its only done 1500miles rather than 2k i found out today.
Sounds good I got to fork out for decat and remap myself but can't really afford it. Not a big fan of the single exhaust but I think they are the full race system. Have you ridden it? Only you'll know whether it's for you or not.
well did the deal and pick up the new bike wednesday!! just hope this weather buggers off so i can go play!!!
