748 Tip Over Stress

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by SamRforce, Feb 1, 2020.

  1. No more side stand tip over stress anymore :)
    I changed to a 848 1098 1198 side stand.
Anyone a tip how to connect the stand-lock switch into the loom ?

  3. Mines adjustable.

  4. Switch should be a straight swap. Good mod this.

  5. I think @Birdie 's mod is better, just 10.95 for the u-shaped bracket in the OP's hand.

  6. Lost me. My original and replacement both had the u shaped bracket?
Is the straight bracket a suicide stand? The point of swapping to the 848 stand is that it is longer therefore the bike does not lean so far over on it.

  7. The switch should just bolt on...

Different stand but the bracket is the 1098 one.

  8. My original flip-up had no switch, therefore no connector. I swapped the flip-up bracket/spring from the original 748 stand. I get on the saddle wrong side :) forgetting to kick the stand inn, sometimes

  9. 21 years with mine ... I like that it flips up

  10. I did this mod to my 996sps , changed to 1098 stand and fixing bolt switch bolted straight up but had a loop plug made so it will run with side stand down.

  11. Got a friend to weld a large piece of metal onto my beemers side-stand. Because it to was pathetically small'

  12. I jump from one to the other, normal type with ease.:upyeah:

  13. Have you got any pics of the plug/wiring please mate? Would be well handy for mine to have it running while on the side stand

  14. There’s another thread somewhere about a similar thing, fella was asking questions about what other stands would fit the 748, didn’t like the auto retract. The alternative stands we’re coming in at c£100 all in. Birdie pointed readers to a 10.95 bracket on eBay that when added to the original stand stops it auto retracting. I’ve no problems with the angle of lean on mine, would just rather it was manual retract.

  15. Same on my 748 the lean angle is fine, i fitted this about 4 years ago, and don't run the side stand switch.

  17. You’re a star, thanks mate

  18. I think it’s just a wire connecting the two ends together.

  19. Im sure it is, there used to be someone on eBay that sold a little plug in connector block
