An interesting piece on Visordown on what they consider to be the top 10 Yamahas since they started to produce motorcycles in 1955. Top 10 Yamahas 1st & 2nd are probably predictable but I'd move some of the other around a bit. Their top bike is nudging 20 years old now and nothing from the last 10 years on the list.
I passed my test on a Yammie 120, which seized up on me at some stage, and after achieving a full licence I traded it for a Triumph T90 350cc twin. I can understand why the 120 isn't in the top ten
I can't understand why the TDM is in the top 10, bloody awful bike. Clearly a top ten chosen by committee. Andy
TDR should be in there - mine was bonkers once id gutted the front pipes, skimmed the head and polished all the ports out...
Back to Yams. As it wasn't specified that it had to be a road bike mine has to be the TZ750 OW31. A genuinely awe inspiring machine which I was privileged to ride a couple of times back in the eighties. Had about 10 laps round Mallory which was far from the ideal circuit for it but also had a sneaky blast on the M25 one Sunday lunchtime which was serious Fun.
Serious piece of kit without a doubt but just a bit too extreme, the Reed valves on the 750 made it a vastly more rideable machine but still with mind blowing performance.
