Hi guys, My baby is an MTS1200S year 2010 with 20000km and no additional mods. I replaced the original exhaust cat converter after some time with a new factory one due to small problem, but ever since I cannot get the high top speed like before. (of course in closed circuit etc etc...) I could easily reach 265 - 270 kmh but now it is struggling to reach 235 -240kmh. Any ideas that may help?
Exhaust valve not fully opening. Get a torch and look down the exhaust, while a mate turns on the ignition. Should fully open and close.
Hi AirConTechnical, After reading a lot about this exhaust valve before, I removed it completely. I took it for a 300km spin today and, although the bike is quite better at low revs, nothing changed on the top speed. Any more ideas?
Try cleaning / replacing the air filter. Is the snorkel tube still connected from the front nose cone to the air box, has this become constricted. You do get some boost effect at speed, but not sure how much. Fuel....make sure you've got a full tank of 99RON. Controls....SET to 150HP? Possibly a collapsed cat... After that then a Dyno type investigation...what's happening to the fuel mix etc.
Checked all of them from before. Most probably a collapsed cat.. I guess only the decat pipe will solve the problem. Thanks for all the help! Really Appreciate it!
The airbox is really important, I removed my fairing once and the snorkel on the side was not connected properly. This caused a big loss to top speed and top end power, only noticeable at high speeds. bugs
Allowing for the "speedo to real" speed error* that 265-270Km/h (250km/h or 155mph) is the top speed of a good/tweeked Multistrada. I've a tweeked 2010 model with 151BHP (Stock was 134BHP) at the rear wheel and that top speed was 155mph with me bolt up right on it (Pikes Peak screen). From memory the bike is faster in 5th than 6th (my mind was firmly on other things at the time). I'd suggest that a standard bike would struggle to achieve that speed with those conditions. The bike will go faster...but I'm not shaped like a Dolphin more Puffer Fish, so I won't lay/crouch down on the tank and in any event I don't think my bad arm would allow me to. Have you changed the screen, helmet or jacket? Wind resistance at that speed is a real drag. * Take speedo indicated and multiply by 92.6% to get real speed.
AirConTechnical I didn't change anything. The only thing I can remember or find logic is the cat converter. 1 other friend have the same bike and can get 270. A 2nd friend has full system termigioni and saw 282kmh on the clock. What do you guys think about the airbox "free hp" modification? Anyone tried it?
My 2010 MTS1200 S has this modification, search this site for details under my name. AirConTechnical - Info for you. | Ducati Forum My modification was to open up the left hand (when sat on the bike) of the air box. Thoughts at the time was this would make a big difference. The noise is to die for...real Ducati induction noise....beautissimo . CJS Racing has since modified his thoughts, however to be fair that is on removing the off side snorkel connection right hand (when sat on the bike). I always left mine in. I still made 151Bhp at the rear wheel without the RAM air effect and a very real 155mph flat out...upright with a gorilla* at the bars. *My official description according to a few members on here, who even after Ducati issued a front fork WORKSHOP NOTICE (AKA RECALL) still haven't modified their scathing posts or apologised.
There is no dynometer on this country. How about I do this modifications like the photo with out dyno. Would you recommend it?
The current wisdom (consensus) is that this is not a good modification. But I'm sure that some will disagree.....then I'd do it just for the noise....who cares if it won't do +145Mph.....the grin factor at normal speeds is to die for.
