I’ve only had my Monster for a few months and not done too many miles on it cos it’s been cold and I’m soft! However, I will be taking the bike to Dijon at the end of May for the Coupe de Moto Legend and I was wondering, is there anything specifically Ducati or Monstery I should do to prepare the bike or anything you would recommend taking with me? I will be doing the standard things like getting a good service done but is there any advice you can offer with your greater Ducati experience? Also, I will be taking a minimalist aproach to packing etc but I currently have no panniers or boxes etc for the bike and they don't seem to be too easy to find, any suggestions on this area? In case the specifics help, the bike is a 2010 Monster 1100, the round trip is about 1200 miles and we’ll be taking the ferry not the tunnel. Many thanks
I had an S4 monster had a dp rack and case on it which I still have although the bikes gone. Doubt it will fit your bike but your welcome to borrow it. i will be going to a dealers in the near future I will look at an 1100 and see if there is anyway it will fit
I rode my 696 to Italy and back for World Ducati Week last year. Took the ferry - ferry blokes strapped it down with no dramas - I think they had old towels to put between the strap and the seat. I used the Kriega luggage (a US20 with 2 US10s) as a tailpack, and had their R3 bumbag for passport, phone, wallet etc. The high exhausts on a 696 mean that conventional panniers won't work. The Kriega luggage is properly waterproof and I managed to fit everything in for a fortnight away (though I did end up washing socks & Tshirts in hotel sinks). The other popular luggage alternative for new shape monsters is the Ventura system - a framework for attaching a variety of tailpacks (including some absolutely huge ones), although it's not particularly cheap. I put the locations of Ducati dealers in the areas I was going on the satnav before I left - proved handy getting me to Ducati Nice when I needed new tyres in the south of France (no dramas - they were on their way out when I set off, but was determined to wring the last few miles out of them). Satnav wise I'd fitted a RAM ball mount onto the handlebars, and got the technically minded other half to rig up a power cable running to the DDA socket under the seat to power his Garmin 660 on my bike. I also took old fashioned papery maps of France and Italy as a back up. I'd also switched the clocks from showing mph to kmph before leaving (the bike's manual says how). Go, enjoy, you'll have a whale of a time.
It wouldn't fit just looked at a picture. I have ventura racks on the 1098 and F4 and would recomend them. I made my own ventura style rack for a Brutale
The kriega above will do a good job, plus they will fit other bikes if you ever change I got similar to MrsC, a 20,10&10, used them on my S4, a 796 for Italy and on a R1 to go to Belgium, also have a R25 rucksack and a kriega cube for those important bits, I now use then on my 1098 Or go for the Ventura, but the rack/rails etc are bike specific Good luck
I have the Ventura rack and bag, takes about 30-40 mins to fit. It was bought 2nd from a mate selling his Monster. They can be found if you look hard enough.. Have fun though.
