  1. The current TV ad has the normal shit with car ads, with the the guy sweeping along deserted roads in the city. They are very proud that the guy can read texts from his phone on the dash as he rushes along. So, it is not dangerous, or illegal, to do your texting as you drive, anymore? Maybe not send but reading them is just as bad. What next? Be able to read books?

  2. I'd like to be able to read the full transcript of the bible whilst on the move, for that holier than thou/ smug vibe, hands free of course!

  6. I was only saying to Mrs B last night ‘is that legal to be responding and touching the screen?’ Last night.

Seems a bit odd given the U.K. climate regarding texting and using a phone right now.

  7. Guessing it’s the same as dialling via hands free as you would have to speak your reply

  8. The ad shows the driver touching the screen, so as to open a text message. Doesn’t show any response.

In reality, probably like Siri or any voice-recorder keyboard on an iPhone.

  9. I’ll find out little lady works for Toyota - I’ll get one and try

  10. The MotoGP boys don't seem to have too much trouble reading the text messages on their bikes screens. I would have thought that's the last thing you would wanting to be doing hooning round a track at the speeds they go.

Mind you that's probably why Cal crashes so much as he likes to read all the fine detail about his lap times etc on his display.

  11. Audiobooks?

  13. You don’t read the texts, the car does it for you. Or at least mine does.

  14. The law is:

Using a phone or a sat nav when driving

It’s illegal to hold a phone or sat nav while driving or riding a motorcycle. You must have hands-free access, such as:

    a bluetooth headset
    voice command
    a dashboard holder or mat
    a windscreen mount
    a built-in sat nav

The device must not block your view of the road and traffic ahead.

You must stay in full control of your vehicle at all times. The police can stop you if they think you’re not in control because you’re distracted and you can be prosecuted.

So touching the screen is fine, so long as you don't weave about and are considered not to be in full control. I'm not sure I agree, but thats the rules.
