Track Day Tyres??

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Tdog, Apr 27, 2017.

  1. Hi all what tyer profile are people using for track day tyers? Would like to move away from Pirelli to Dunlop but only do 180/55. Would this be an issue with the traction control / and would it change the characteristics of the bike with geometry ?
    Many thanks.

  2. Thread moved and title amended to spell "tyres" ;)

  3. 180/60 is 10mm taller than 180/55 so yes it will change the geometry significantly.

  4. From a previous thread it does appear that the 190/55 is disappearing in a slick but the treaded track tyres like the Pirelli Supercorse SC/SP and Metzeler Racetech RR are available in that size. Andy

  5. What bike??

Depends on brand. Pirelli supercorsas are tall so whatever you go for are likely a flatter profile, and if you make them less tall you may nice it being slower to turn

Have a look at Bridgestone VO2 slicks if you are going that way, they do odd sizes but apparently work well with the 5.5 inch 180 rim :)

  6. Ok thanks for all replies. Bikes a 959 has anyone experience issues with the traction control playing up with the change in profile? Would be looking for a cut slick like a sc/ gp 212 or racetec rr.

  7. I think this was discussed on a thread a week or so ago? Consensus seemed to be very little difference for the DTC and even if it was, e.g. It comes on too soon, you can adjust in the settings. Or just turn it off :)
