Trackday Noise Level, How Is It Measured?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Sicilian, Jul 5, 2022.

  1. I'm thinking of doing a trackday on my SF V4S, most likely next year now on a Ducati only day.

Recently had fitted the Termi Racing exhaust D199: https://conquestracingltd.com/produ...fighter-v4-racing-exhaust-d199-black-edition/

Spec on the website says 94db.

I installed db measuring app on my iphone, idle measures around 89db. I was thinking the measurement is too low so purchased Sound level meter on amazon, only a cheapie £25 thing, that measures idle approx 85db.

How do the tracks measure the sound level on the day? I'm assuming I'll be well within the limits or am I assuming wrong?

  2. Go to your local circuit on a trackday early on during noise testing (MSV tracks usually do a nice breakfast too) and have a chat with the chaps doing it, see if he'll put his wand near your outlet? They are a friendly bunch, and then you'll know.

  3. Bottom of this MSV link, https://bike.msvtrackdays.com/FAQ/Booked will give you an idea. Usually, the reading is taken at 0.5m at an angle of 45° to the exhaust outlet. Revs vary from 5000rpm to 3/4 max revs depending on who is doing it. Andy
