Hi folks, I've put some money aside to do a trackday school and wondered if anyone had done any of the following to choose between?- California superbike level 1 (silverstone) Msv rider development program level 1 (cadwell) Or wild card - Chris Walker race school (Mallory) Cheers Simon
I dont know about any off them, but did Ron Haslams thing last year, I do fancy the Chris Walker day though, spoke to them at the London bike show and it seems like a cracking day out.
Yeah the Walker school looks great value but part of me wants to learn to be fast and safe on the Duke
I've done level 1 of CSS a few weeks ago, Was a good day, very professionally run but not cheap. I'm booking level two for later in the year and using the Trackdays I've booked to practice what I learnt. Most people seem to say that you get most out of level 2.
Thanks for that mate... That's the feeling I got too.. If you stick with all the CSS levels its expensive but you potentially turn into a hero
I did the Haslam school in May at Silverstone on the 600 and I'm doing the Walker school at Mallory at the end of June. At Haslam, I was lucky to have 1to1 training as they werent fully subscribed and my instructor was very helpful. Pretty much straight out of the box he could tell that I could ride, so we picked up the pace pretty quickly. There is one slight downside and that is that when faster riders (which is normally the guys on the blades) come past you have to get off the racing line. I only had to get off the line for a 600 once, but had to move out of the way about four times over the course of the three sessions for the blades. In one respect it was a bit of a bugger, but then it kinda helped as you didn't have to be 'on it' for the whole session. That could just be me however. I really wanted to work on my body position and we pretty much concentrated on that. I am very interested to see the difference in the Walker school as I'm already hearing very good things about it. I'll be trying to work on my braking as after a 120mph front wheel lock up at Snett in Oct 2010 (bit cold and damp) I tend to be very cautious when approaching really heavy braking on track. I like the idea of the CSS, but it is expensive and I'm not sure how much I will learn at level one. We all have to start somewhere however
CSS is excellent. Expensive, but I thought the lessons learned and methodically practiced were worth far more than any other instructor has taught me on a trackday. L2 really starts to bring things together and gives amazing clarity to your riding, then L3 onwards helps make you fast.
I have done the RH school at Silverstone 3 times, the last two being in 'ELITE' which means you are on blades with 121 tuition. Thoroughly enjoyed all of them TBH i found all the instructors very good. Did the CW race school about 6 weeks ago, its cheaper than RH so thats a bonus and to be honest its slightly better but i did find mallory a small track. James Whitam does all the talking throughout the day inbetween track sessions, what a very funny bloke he is !!. I had Gary Mason as my instructor for the day...TOP Bloke !! Will definitely do it again !!
Me too, we were catching other 600s, slowing down for them as they were not letting us past, then when we had a chance to go past there would usually be a blade behind which went through first, 2 of our sessions were complete pants. I would do the blade maybe but would rather do other schools first.
Haven't done the others, but have done CSS all the way through. It was a tremendous shortcut to learning good track technique. I think you can start to work on the rest thereafter. Not cheap though. But crashing your way around learning is probably more expensive (and painful).
